This Software Engineer II role at Microsoft focuses on developing the next generation of cloud streaming technology for Windows. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and evolving tools to improve cloud streaming visual quality and responsiveness. The role involves close collaboration with various teams (design, hardware, program management, software development) and requires end-to-end ownership of engineering activities. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, adept at solving complex problems, and capable of leading by example to maintain high product standards. The team builds key technologies for low-latency streaming, innovating in real-time graphics, network resiliency, and video codecs, bringing powerful cloud compute to users via products such as Windows Cloud Streaming. The role requires extensive C++ development and debugging skills and experience working in a team environment on a shared code base.

Windows Cloud Experiences is bringing Windows to the cloud, allowing more than 100 million users every day to access Windows as a remote desktop. We want to provide these users with the best experience possible from any client device.

 

We have an immediate opening for a Software Engineer II on the Windows Cloud Streaming and Graphics Team where we build key technologies for low-latency streaming, innovating in areas such as real-time graphics, network resiliency, and video codecs, and bring powerful cloud compute anywhere through products such as and .

 

We are looking for a C++ software engineer with a solid background and passion in some or all of these areas to complement our team and join us on this exciting journey!

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND extensive years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Solid C++ development and debugging skills.
  • A proven ability to work in a team environment on a shared code base.
  • Extensive years of relevant professional software development experience.

Other Requirements

 

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing, debugging, profiling, and optimizing code on different hardware platforms running the Windows operating system.
  • OS networking stacks (on any OS.)
  • Video codecs and low-latency, high-throughput video encoding/decoding.
  • Machine Learning and its application in networking and/or video/audio.

Responsibilities

  • Developing the next generation of cloud streaming technology for Windows
  • Designing, implementing, and evolving new tools and techniques to analyze and improve the visual quality and responsiveness of cloud streaming 
  • Working in close partnership with a team of diverse and talented peers in various disciplines including design, hardware, Program Management, and Software Development for sustained long term success, and partnering with your peers and technical leadership to deliver solid technical designs and architectures 
  • Working on all aspects of Software Development including design, implementation, testing, maintenance, documentation and delivery 
  • End-to-end ownership of your engineering activities and deliverables, from ideation to delivery 
  • You are expected to be a self-starter, capable of solving ambiguous and challenging technical problems with wide scope 
  • You will be expected to lead by example and maintain the standard and craftsmanship embodied in our products
