Job Description

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of software engineers and drive the technical strategy and execution of key AI/ML projects. You will also be responsible for ensuring timely delivery and quality of these projects. In this role, you will contribute to the development and implementation of AI/ML solutions, ensuring their scalability and maintainability. You will also be responsible for developing the mid-term technical idea and roadmap within the scope of the team, and evolving the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs. You will also set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals and align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams. The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives. The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
5 years of experience with machine learning algorithms and tools.
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
2 years of experience in a people management role.

Good to have:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
3 years of experience working in a changing organization.
Knowledge of AI/ML algorithms, techniques, and tools.
Ability to lead technical projects and deliver results.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
5 years of experience with machine learning algorithms and tools (e.g., TensorFlow), or applied ML (e.g., deep learning, natural language processing).
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
3 years of experience working in a changing organization.
Knowledge of AI/ML algorithms, techniques, and tools.
Ability to lead technical projects and deliver results.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Design, guide, and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Lead a team of software engineers, driving technical strategy and execution of key AI/ML projects, and ensuring timely delivery and quality.
Contribute to the development and implementation of AI/ML solutions, ensuring their scalability and maintainability.
Develop the mid-term technical idea and roadmap within the scope of the team, evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs, set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals, and align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
