Job Description

The Solution Engineer will work within a Scrum team to apply business requirements to develop productions that satisfy customer needs. They will also provide assistance to support the product in the live environment by performing in depth analysis of raised issues and developing fixes to remediate the problems. The role requires writing clean and efficient code using SQL Server, contributing to design work and planning for user stories, collaborating with colleagues, and building knowledge of software development. They will also work closely with Site Reliability Engineers to understand and resolve problems in the production environment. The candidate must be self-motivated and demonstrate good analytical and problem solving skills. The role is within the Post Trade Regulatory Reporting (PTRR) department.
Must have:
  • Degree in Software Engineering or related field
  • Good knowledge of Agile and SDLC processes
  • Query writing skills in SQLServer (DDL & DML)
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills
Good to have:
  • Understanding of SQL query performance optimization
  • Knowledge of Python, Snowflake, Powershell
  • Knowledge of cloud concepts
  • Experience with Reg Reporting’s MiFIR or EMIR solutions

Role profile:

Department, team and role description

Post Trade Regulatory Reporting (PTRR) is a department within Markets which owns an estate of systems built on the PTRR Platform. The systems cover a range of functions from the generation of LEIs and ISINs for the UK to the regulatory reporting systems like EMIR Trade Repository and MiFIR Reporting. All are underpinned by the PTRR Platform, an ETL and visualisation suite developed in-house since 2006.

The PTRR Solutions Engineering team traditionally manages the configuration layer of systems created on the PTRR Platform, from initial blank install to initial delivery and then on into feature development and maintenance releases. Recent releases such as EMIR Refit have seen a move to incorporate technologies currently outside the PTRR Platform, with integration back to the Platform.

Based in our head office in London, the Solution Engineer will work within a Scrum team to apply business requirements to develop productions that satisfy customer needs. They will also provide assistance to support the product in the live environment by performing in depth analysis of raised issues and developing fixes to remediate the problems.

The role reports to the Scrum team’s technical lead.

Key responsibilities of the role

  • Will work within an agile framework, participating in all ceremonies and working collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Autonomously write clean, efficient code using SQL Server to translate Business Requirements into efficient Solution functionality.
  • Develops knowledge and understanding of technologies in LSEG and utilises these in own scope of work, with others as well as to create solutions
  • Manages own workload and promotes an inclusive and open culture
  • Builds knowledge of software development and utilises this knowledge within work
  • Contributes to design work and planning for user stories
  • Executes on the delivery of given tasks with some guidance and oversight
  • Builds trusting relationships with team and colleagues, collaborating closely with team. Communicates clearly with team and keeps clear lines of communication open to ensure full understanding of information and tasks, asking questions where needed
  • Takes interest to develop knowledge in technology products and tools through on the job learning, certifications and projects.
  • Has a strong emphasis on build quality which is achieved by adhering to best practise and also thorough unit testing.
  • Work closely with Site Reliability Engineers to understand problems in the production environment, perform detailed analysis to find the cause and remediate the problem through code fixes or documented processes.
  • To own one’s changes through the build and test phases and also deploy to the production environment.

Essential experience and skills required:

  • Degree in Software Engineering or Electronics / Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Good knowledge of Agile and SDLC processes
  • Must have query writing skills in SQLServer, most notably:
    • DDL  ie. Create /alter/drop tables and views
    • DML ie. Insert / delete from tables, select and update columns from tables.
    • Aggregating data ie. Calculate sum, count, min,max of values in a given data set, using group by
  • Some understanding of SQL query performance optimization, using query plans would be beneficial but can be developed.
  • Knowledge of Python, Snowflake, Powershell is beneficial
  • Any knowledge of cloud concepts, data warehouse and services is desirable.
  • Able to demonstrate good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills and ability to present ideas to others.
  • Must be self-motivated and have a desire to engage in process improvement.
  • Any existing experience and understanding of Reg Reporting’s MiFIR or EMIR solutions will be beneficial.
