Microsoft's Artificial Intelligence Silicon Engineering (AISiE) SoC Design Verification team seeks a Director to lead and deliver high-quality designs. Responsibilities include leading verification of complex flows, managing silicon development functions, collaborating with cross-functional teams, planning verification of IPs and SoCs, developing verification environments, debugging simulations, improving verification efficiency, mentoring engineers, and managing external partnerships. The role requires expertise in design verification, RTL debugging, simulation/emulation, scripting, and team leadership.

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications

  • 9+ years of related technical engineering experience

    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience or internship experience

      o OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience

      o OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience.

  •  9+ years of experience in design verification with a proven track record of delivering complex CPU or SoC IP’s
  • Proficient background in debugging RTL (Verilog) designs as well as simulation and/or emulation environments; scripting language such as Python or Perl
  • Proficient organizational skills to build and scale up highly skilled teams, bring in design execution efficiency through improvement in design execution processes
  • Proficient communication and collaboration skills and being able to lead through ambiguity to develop a vision and strategy

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations.  As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide either proof of their country of citizenship or proof of their US. residency or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. Lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees may verify status using other documents, where applicable. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 14+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 11+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of people management experience.
  • Hands on experience in formal property verification
  • knowledge in high-speed protocols like DDR/HBM, PCIe, Ethernet
  • Experience of working on AI/ML SoCs 
  • Experience with verification for multiple product cycles from definition to silicon, including writing test plans, developing tests, debugging failures and coverage signoff in UVM or C++
  • Knowledge in developing emulation tools, workflows and infrastructure in collaboration with design, verification, validation and SW teams to provide end-to-end pre-silicon confidence

 

Silicon Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities

The AISiE SoC DV team is seeking a passionate, driven, and intellectually curious computer/electrical engineer to lead team and deliver premium-quality designs once considered impossible. We are responsible for delivering cutting-edge, custom IP and SoC designs that can perform complex and high-performance functions in an extremely efficient manner.

  • Lead verification of complex flows at the SOC, subsystem, or IP levels
  • Own organizational management responsibility for some silicon development functions
  • Work in close collaboration with various cross functional teams including architecture, design, technology, platform, software, validation, and manufacturing to drive cost/schedule/capability trade-offs
  • Plan the verification of complex IPs and SoCs, interacting directly with architecture and design engineers to identify verification test scenarios
  • Develop verification environments and run and debug simulations to drive quality; apply random-stimulus and coverage-based techniques to find bugs and meet test plan goals
  • Innovate to improve verification efficiency through methodologies or tools
  • Coach and mentor others in your areas of expertise
  • Lead, support and grow a team of DV engineers to drive on-time project delivery
  • Scope, define, and drive engagements with external suppliers, vendors, and partners
