Frontier Developments seeks an Experienced UI Developer to join its Elite: Dangerous team in Cambridge, UK. This role involves developing quality UI code, reviewing existing and new code, contributing to codebase improvements, collaborating with designers and artists, developing prototypes, and ensuring a great user experience. The successful candidate will have experience working on multiple shipped game titles, particularly within a long-running game franchise. Proficiency in Scaleform development and high-level languages (C#, LUA, JS, Haxe, AS3, or Java) is essential, along with debugging skills, understanding of performance constraints, and the ability to integrate assets into UI. Excellent communication and adaptability are also key.

WHAT'S THE ROLE?

We are looking for an Experienced UI Developer to join our Elite: Dangerous team in Cambridge, UK. This is a very exciting opportunity to work with a passionate team of expert developers on this live game and its unique 1:1 Milky Way Galaxy simulation.
 
Having just celebrated a very successful 10th Anniversary; we have exciting plans for the future of Elite and our dedicated player community. 

Your problem-solving skills and passion for developing UI will be key to providing a great user experience to players, and to delivering the quality that Frontier Developments strives for.  

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

    • Developing quality UI code for Elite Dangerous.  
    • Reviewing existing and new code additions to the game.  
    • Contributing to the development of our codebase and quality of life improvements.  
    • Working closely with the Designers, Artists and Gameplay teams, seeking feedback and iterating on your work.  
    • Developing prototypes to help inform the design process.  

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

    • Experience working on multiple shipped game titles, or experience on a long running games franchise, in a similar UI role. 
    • Experience with Scaleform development.  
    • Previous experience working with high-level languages, e.g C#, LUA, JS, Haxe, AS3 or Java. 
    • Experience using a language's debugging tools, and knowledge of how to use them to diagnose bugs.  
    • Knowledge of performance constraints in real-time applications, and experience profiling and optimising their code. 
    • Comfortable weaving assets provided by Designers and Artists into your UI's.  
    • Ability to communicate effectively within your team, and foster links with other disciplines.  
    • Ability to quickly adapt to new tools and frameworks.
