This PMO Planner position supports the development and maintenance of enterprise-level information systems for a major UK rail network company. Responsibilities include leading the evaluation of project timelines, costs, and risks; supporting the Planning Manager in developing and maintaining the program structure (WBS and CBS); creating and managing cost/resource-loaded schedules; ensuring adherence to access dates and milestones; tracking project progress and identifying potential issues; collaborating with other teams (Project Controls, Reporting, Change Management); communicating planning strategies; assisting in setting project objectives and evaluating planner performance. The role requires proficiency in project scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project), experience in risk assessment and mitigation, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Project description

One of the biggest UK rail network companies operating with rail infrastructure and asset management has a need to develop and support enterprise level information systems.

Responsibilities

Lead the evaluation of project timelines, costs, and risk assessments to ensure alignment with project objectives.

Support the Planning Manager in developing and maintaining the programme structure, including the alignment of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS).

Create and manage cost/resource-loaded schedules, ensuring timely delivery of project milestones.

Ensure the programme adheres to access dates, milestones, and key planning requirements.

Track project progress, identify potential issues, and recommend proactive solutions.

Collaborate effectively with Project Controls, Reporting, and Change Management teams to maintain project alignment and performance.

Communicate planning strategies and share industry best practices to enhance project outcomes.

Assist in setting project objectives and evaluating Planner performance to drive continuous improvement.

Skills

Must have

Proficiency in developing, managing, and analyzing project schedules, including the use of tools such as Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software.

Ability to create cost/resource-loaded programmes, track expenses, and allocate resources efficiently.

Experience in identifying risks, performing risk assessments, and formulating mitigation strategies.

Expertise in developing and aligning WBS and CBS to ensure consistency and clarity across the programme.

Skilled in tracking project progress, identifying potential delays or issues, and proposing corrective actions.

Ability to collaborate with other teams within the organization, such as Project Controls, Reporting, and Change Management to ensure effective communication and project performance.

Understanding of planning principles, including milestones, and key planning requirements.

Ability to assess Planner performance, set objectives, and contribute to team development.

Strong analytical skills to foresee potential problems and propose effective solutions.

Excellent communication skills to present planning strategies and best practices clearly across various teams and stakeholders.
