Job Description

This Policy Specialist role at Google's Trust & Safety team focuses on content moderation in the APAC/Greater China and Singapore regions. Responsibilities include identifying and analyzing content trends and policy issues, leading discussions with stakeholders on emerging regulations, managing content operations and escalations of sensitive government requests, developing scalable policies and guidelines, and participating in an on-call rotation for high-priority escalations. The ideal candidate is fluent in Mandarin and English, possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and has experience in a policy, legal, or technology environment. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Product, Policy, Enforcement, Communications, and Legal teams. This position requires balancing legal considerations while effectively resolving issues and managing large volumes of requests based on regional trends and legal issues.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years policy, legal, or tech experience
  • Fluency in Mandarin and English
  • Content review expertise
  • On-call availability
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
Good to have:
  • Experience in Trust & Safety or Legal
  • Knowledge of APAC socio-political landscape
  • Understanding of internet policy issues
  • Excellent project management skills

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in a policy, legal, regulatory environment, content review, Trust and Safety, or technology environment.
  • Ability to communicate in Mandarin/Chinese and English fluently in order to review content in these languages.
  • Ability to work non-standard, on-call rotation work hours, including weekends.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in technology industry business areas such as trust and safety or legal.
  • Knowledge of the technology sector, its trends, and key policy issues affecting the internet (e.g., intellectual property, free expression, online safety).
  • Knowledge of the socio-political landscape and current events in Greater China and Singapore regions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills, including with cross-functional partners.

A diverse team of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers, we work to reduce risk and fight abuse across all of Google’s products, protecting our users, advertisers, and publishers across the globe in over 40 languages.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and analyze content moderation trends and key policy issues affecting the Internet in the APAC/Greater China and Singapore region. Lead discussions with cross-functional stakeholders on emerging regulations and its implications on legal removals landscape at Google.
  • Manage content operations and drive escalations of sensitive government requests by liaising with Product, Policy, Enforcement, Communications, and Legal teams. Balance various legal considerations in order to effectively resolve issues.
  • Develop and launch scalable policies and guidelines for managing large volumes of requests, based on different regional trends and legal issues.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation schedule to manage high priority escalations that may occur outside of standard non work hours including weekends/holidays.
