TEAM INTRODUCTION
Our database team is responsible for building and owning database products used by TikTok's infrastructure including but not limited relational databases, key-value stores and document stores. In this team, you’ll have the opportunity to develop and enhance a full-stack database system including storage, query execution engine and query optimizer as well as associated management tool in a cloud native environment. Internships at ByteDance aim to provide students with hands-on experience in developing fundamental skills and exploring potential career paths. A vibrant blend of social events and enriching development workshops will be available for you to explore. Here, you will utilize your knowledge in real-world scenarios while laying a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. This Internship Program runs for 12 weeks beginning in May/June 2025. Successful candidates must be able to commit to one of the following summer internship start dates below:

We will prioritize candidates who are able to commit to these start dates. Please state your availability clearly in your resume (Start date, End date).

Online Assessment
Candidates who pass resume evaluation will be invited to participate in TikTok's technical online assessment in HackerRank.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop kernel modules or features for distributed database systems.
- Solve unique, large-scale, highly complex cloud infrastructure problems
- Partner with PMs and engineers from different teams on building backend support for cloud database service prodcuts
- Participate in technical discussions related to team's product and engineering work
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related fields
- Knowledge of database kernel, distributed system, query processing and optimization, multi-threaded programming
- Experience coding in C/C++, Golang, Java, Python
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Graduating in December 2025 or beyond.
- Demonstrated software engineering experience from previous internship, work experience, coding competitions, or publications
- Curiosity towards new technologies and entrepreneurship
- High levels of creativity and quick problem-solving capabilities
- Experience with open source DBMS development such as Mysql, PostgreSql and others is highly desirable

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description Intern (hourly)The hourly rate range for this position in the selected city is $45- $45. We cover 100% premium coverage for Full-Time intern medical insurance after 90 days from the date of hire. Medical coverage only, no dental or vision coverage.
Our time off and leave plans are: Paid holidays and paid sick leave. The sick leave entitlement is based on the time you join.
