Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Feature Development: Developing new features, functionality, and optimizations. From bringing cost data closer to Canva teams to automating cost anomaly detection at scale.
  • Product Development: Designing, building out, and autonomously leading discussions around our teams’ products. Supporting answering questions from our product teams and company leaders.
  • Cost Optimization in Cloud Architecture: Working with Canva’s engineering teams to improve their cloud architecture from a cost optimization perspective.
  • Data Platform: Getting hands-on with our FinOps data platform, tuning it and keeping it running smoothly.
  • Culture Champion: Championing the FinOps culture at Canva. Spread the word and empower others to join in.

You're probably a match if

  • You have proficiency in Golang or Python: You are comfortable coding in Golang, or Python, but willing to upskill in either.
  • You have Computer Engineering Fundamentals: You have deep knowledge and understanding of Computer Engineering fundamentals and first principles.
  • You have experience with AWS: You have strong knowledge of AWS services such as EKS, EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, or equivalent Cloud provider experience.
  • You have Cloud Architecture Experience: Experience designing, implementing, and managing scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud architectures.
  • You are proficient with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): You are proficient with infrastructure-as-code. We’re a Terraform shop, but strong experience with other IaC tools will do the trick.
  • You value goal ownership: Experience owning, tracking, and delivering goals, working both independently and in teams.
  • You can guide and mentor other team members and improve the way we collaborate, learn, and share ideas.
  • You are curious and enjoy discovering new areas and understanding areas outside of your expertise. Solving those opportunities and problem spaces with technical ideas and solutions.
  • You are excited about designing solutions at scale, pragmatically planning what delivers the most value with low cost. Working with many different collaborators, each with their own problems. Tying the short-term steps that open the long-term goals.

About the team

You'll be joining the Cloud FinOps team who look after building and promoting a cost-aware culture that empowers engineers at Canva to seamlessly maximize the value of every dollar spent in the cloud. If you have a passion for continuous learning, collaboration, problem-solving, and creating innovative technical solutions to address real business challenges, joining our team will put you in the spotlight to help Canva achieve its two-step plan.

The Cloud FinOps team is part of The Cloud Platform group whose mission is to reduce the complexity of using the Cloud. We’re responsible for building a platform that enables cloud adoption whilst minimising risk introduced to the business. Our teams work together, and with other groups, to deliver cloud tooling, processes and best practices that uplift the posture of Canva’s cloud footprint. We do this by driving operational excellence and building products that abstract the complexities of the cloud away.
