This Software Engineer role within Google's Metrics and Business Intelligence team focuses on developing and maintaining data pipelines, dashboards, and metrics to support data-driven decision-making. Responsibilities include writing and reviewing code, contributing to documentation, troubleshooting system issues, and evolving metrics and data infrastructure. The team provides critical insights to help Google's client organization make informed decisions based on tangible evidence. The role requires strong software development skills (e.g., Java), experience with data analytics tools, and excellent communication skills.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years software development experience
  • 2+ years experience with data structures/algorithms
  • Data analytics tools & reporting platform experience
  • Fluent English communication
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in Computer Science
  • Experience with accessible technologies
  • Front-end coding skills (JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS)
  • Data warehousing & unstructured database familiarity

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java), or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Experience working with data analytics tools and reporting platforms.
  • Ability to communicate in English fluently to interact with local stakeholders in this customer-facing role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Experience in front-end coding tools and languages (e.g. JavasScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS).
  • Familiarity with data warehousing.
  • Familiarity with unstructured databases.

The Metrics team provides critical insights to help the client organization make informed decisions based on tangible evidence. The Metrics team is responsible for defining and executing on the key performance indicators that enable data-driven investment and decision making on the frameworks and infrastructure that serves Google’s largest and most important products.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
  • Evolve and make improvements to the metrics, data pipelines, and dashboards.
