The Staff Software Engineer will be a hands-on technical leader developing large-scale tools for monitoring and troubleshooting production software or distributed systems. They will design, implement, and maintain a platform for processing, analyzing, visualizing, and correlating vast amounts of data. Responsibilities include designing and implementing high-volume, fault-tolerant backend systems, building a big data analytics platform in the cloud, collaborating with a team, analyzing and improving backend systems, writing robust code, and mentoring team members. The ideal candidate should be passionate about monitoring and operations and be able to build a scalable, low-latency platform.
Must have:
  • B.S. or higher in Computer Sciences or related field.
  • 9-12 years of industry experience with proven delivery.
  • Experience in developing scalable data processing solutions.
  • Experience in multi-threaded programming.
  • Experience running scalable microservice architecture.
  • Hands-on object-oriented programming experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Good to have:
  • Experience in big data and/or 24x7 commercial service.
  • Experience working with Unix (Linux, OS X).
  • Agile software development experience.

Staff Software Engineer

This role targets a candidate with expertise in the development of large-scale tools for monitoring and troubleshooting of production software systems or generally, distributed systems development. This engineer will serve as a hands-on technical leader on the team responsible for building the next generation platform for processing, analyzing, visualizing, and correlating vast quantities of heterogeneous machine data. The role will demand technical excellence from design through implementation, and beyond into production operations. 

The ideal candidate is obsessed with the past, present, and future of monitoring and operations, and energized by the extreme challenges of building an efficient, cloud-based, multi-tenant, large-scale, low-latency platform that engineers depend upon in order to keep their mission-critical software running.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Designing and implementing extremely high-volume, fault-tolerant, scalable backend systems that process and manage petabyte scale data.
  • Building the system that runs elastic big data analytics platform that runs in a shared-everything multi-tenant architecture in AWS cloud. 
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a team to deliver identified projects.
  • Analyze and improve the efficiency and reliability of our backend systems.
  • Write robust code; demonstrate its robustness through automated tests.
  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques, and coding standards.

Your experience and skills include:

  • B.S. or higher in Computer Sciences or related discipline (M.S. a plus)
  • 9-12 years of industry experience with a proven track record of ownership and delivery
  • Experience developing scalable distributed data processing solutions
  • Experience in multi-threaded programming
  • Experience in running large scalable distributed services following a microservice architecture
  • Hands-on object-oriented programming experience (e.g., Java, Scala)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication

Desirable skills:

  • Experience in big data and/or 24x7 commercial service is highly desirable.
  • You should be happy working with Unix (Linux, OS X).
  • Agile software development experience (test-driven development, iterative and incremental development) is a plus.
