In this role, you will ensure that the technical strategy for the development and delivery of the electrical system is delivered to meet the need of the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) effectively balancing performance, risk, cost and time. You will be working directly for the Chief Project Engineer and will coach the team of engineers of varying experience, deployed from group ET&S, in support of all programme engineering objectives in accordance with programme and divisional strategy.  This is a technical role that is expected to lead a (potentially geographically diverse) team of engineering resources effectively in a challenging, self-directed and agile environment and ensures robust, timely programme delivery.

We are proud to be a force for progress, powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere.

We want to ensure that the excellence and ingenuity that has shaped our history continues into our future and we need people like you to come and join us on this journey.

ET&S is a key element in our organisation bringing together Rolls-Royce’s core expertise and working on Engineering, Technology and Safety programmes, engineering standards, processes, methods and tools.

We’ll provide an environment of caring and belonging where you can be yourself. An inclusive, innovative culture that invests in you, gives you access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities where you can grow your career and make a difference.

This multifaceted role will allow you to innovate and define cutting-edge test facility solutions, ensuring the highest standards of performance and reliability in aero engine testing.

What we offer

We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location.  It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement.  As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

As a Technical Lead, you will:

  • Assist the Chief Engineer and Whole Engine Design team in ensuring divisional compliance with the group Product Safety and Health, Safety and Environment policies and processes
  • Robustly perform the required priority, tasking and engineering programme management within your deployed team to ensure right-first-time, on-time delivery in accordance with programme and divisional requirements and approved budget
  • Be a key internal/external customer technical interface, working with the programme Whole Engine Design team to translate customer technical requirements into divisional and group ET&S objectives
  • Actively support the robust integration of the approved engineering load in your deployed team into the divisional and group ET&S Integrated Master Schedules.

Who we’re looking for:

At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles form the behaviours that guide us and are an essential component of our assessment process. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

A successful Technical Lead will be a professional, experienced, safety-focussed engineering manager with a proven track-record of technical delivery and a history of effective, engaging people management in high-performing teams. The role requires that you are open-minded and enthusiastic about change, will positively embrace challenge and are able to effectively collaborate across business boundaries; you will consistently demonstrate resilience in a challenging environment and will successfully lead by example.

  • Professionally qualified Engineer (UK minimum BEng degree or other national equivalent)
  • Up to date, relevant engineering expertise.
  • Proven engineering experience of successfully delivering technical projects/tasks to time, cost, quality, and leadership of teams to do the same
  • Experience of collaboration with diverse teams from different cultures

To work for the Rolls-Royce Defence Business there may be a requirement for an individual to hold a level of National Security Vetting (NSV). If the requirement is identified Rolls-Royce will support the application for NSV if the individual does not currently already have this in place.

The role will include travel between our sites in Bristol, Derby and Solihull.
