Job Description

As an AI Designer at Cloud Imperium Games, you'll be part of the AISocialDesign team, crafting AI behaviors and interactable entities for Squadron 42 and Star Citizen. Responsibilities include designing, building, and implementing AI behaviors focusing on character interactions; creating the technical setup for AI entities; collaborating with the animation team on animation planning and implementation; bringing game locations to life using AI behaviors, scripted scenes, and vignettes; working with in-house AI scripting and scene development tools; and prototyping new AI behaviors and entities. You'll be the liaison between various development disciplines. The ideal candidate possesses visual creativity, understands human behavior, and excels in technical implementation. The goal is to achieve unprecedented detail and realism in a video game.
Must have:
  • Passion for AI behaviors and scripting
  • Visual creativity and understanding of human behavior
  • Experience with game engine and visual scripting tools (Unreal Blueprint, Lumberyard Mannequin)
  • Collaboration and iteration skills

Job Details

We are a crowdfunded company and have a dedicated and enthusiastic community of backers who are helping us create the “Best Damn Space Sim Ever”. We want to build the best we can deliver and we believe wholeheartedly in the value of exceptional diverse talent.

The AI Social Design team creates AI behaviours and interactable entities for Squadron 42 and Star Citizen. We aim to achieve a level of detail never seen before in a video game. Our current focus is to populate the various locations with convincing life based on a location’s theme, lore, and environmental conditions. A successful candidate is both a visually creative person, a student of human behaviour, and master of technical implementations. 

 

Founded in 2012, Cloud Imperium Games creates cutting-edge videogames that defy expectations. We’re currently developing Star Citizen, a record-breaking multiplayer online space sim, and Squadron 42, a cinematic single-player adventure set in the same universe. What does an AI Social Designer at CIG do? 

  • Design, Build, and Implement AI behaviours that focus on the everyday life and interactions of characters  

  • Create the technical set-up for entities the AI will interact with 

  • Collaborate with the animation team through the planning of animations and the in-game implementation of those animations and their technical set-up 

  • Bring game locations to life by triggering AI through behaviours, scripted scenes, vignettes and other AI character experiences 

  • Work with our in-house AI scripting and scene development tools 

  • Be the connection between the various development disciplines of animation, art, audio, and other design groups 

  • Prototype and previsualize new AI behaviours and interactable entities 

 

What do we ask for? 

  • A passion for developing AI behaviours, scripted events and scenes, and for creating living, breathing worlds 

  • A visual and creative eye that focuses on how people behave and an interest in translating that into games 

  • A creative drive to create a living, breathing world and an interest in working technically to drive that into a shipping product 

  • Functional experience with game engine and visual scripting tools such as Unreal Blueprint and Lumberyard Mannequin 

  • Eagerness to hear feedback and willingness to iterate on a design.

About The Company

Cloud Imperium Games is a new kind of independent studio dedicated to delivering AAA experiences outside the established publisher system, founded by Chris Roberts, creator of the best selling Wing Commander and Freelancer series, Cloud Imperium is currently developing Star Citizen, a record-shattering crowd funded title that combines classic space sim gameplay with Hollywood-caliber visuals.


Cloud Imperium aims to pave new ground in game development by sharing the process with the players. Where game development was once hidden, Cloud Imperium has opted to share the process with those backing Star Citizen.
