CNN seeks an experienced journalist for the AM Weekend News Editor role. Responsibilities encompass top-to-bottom editorial management of breaking news, including directing reporting, gathering elements, clearing information, and coordinating across platforms. The editor will monitor the competitive landscape, identify opportunities for distinctive reporting, and ensure coordinated editorial delivery across digital, video, and linear television. This role demands strong news-gathering abilities, leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional news judgment, strong writing and editing skills across multiple platforms, and excellent communication skills.

Your New Role… 

CNN is looking for an experienced journalist with strong news gathering abilities and leadership skills. The AM weekend news editor should be a collaborative, team player who can guide reporters quickly and confidently across a wide range of topics. This editor must have the ability to own all dimensions of the storytelling process from driving assignments and vetting reporting to editing copy for digital, video and linear television. 

Your Role Accountabilities… 

  • Top-to-bottom editorial management of breaking news stories – including directing reporting and element gathering, clearing information and communicating across editorial platforms
  • Monitor the competitive landscape on daily stories 
  • Identify opportunities for distinctive reporting opportunities
  • Ability to pivot quickly from one assignment to another and juggle multiple assignments 
  • Responsible for ensuring that editorial lands in a coordinated way on all platforms  
  • Communicate regularly with beat experts to activate key expert resources across the network

Qualifications & Experience… 

  • The successful candidate for this position will have 3 to 4 years of experience in a news environment at a national-level news operation, preferably a multiplatform organization  
  • Possess exceptional educational acumen and ability to interpret complex editorial issues
  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills and understanding of storytelling on multiple platforms
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced news environment 24 hours/ 365 days a year .  
  • Degree in Journalism or equivalent work experience

Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $71,400.00 - $132,600.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
