As an Art Director for Oculus Publishing, you will work with external game developers to ensure high visual quality for XR game titles and promotional materials. Your responsibilities include contributing to milestone and business reviews, greenlight decision-making, and defining visual best practices. You will collaborate with developer support teams and deliver a successful slate of games. This role involves influencing the in-game and marketing art direction, providing feedback, and contributing to the growth of external teams. You will not be leading the visual design of your own single title, but rather being a critical stakeholder on several key titles and contributing to the growth of external teams that are leading the XR industry. This also includes a bonus, equity, and benefits.
Must have:
  • 10+ years of video game development experience
  • Shipped at least three game titles in an art role
  • Experience with character and environment art
  • Knowledge of data-driven approaches to art decisions
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Good to have:
  • Shipped at least one XR title as art lead
  • Experience in evaluating milestone deliveries
  • Experience presenting at Greenlight gate meetings

Job Details

As a key member of the Oculus Publishing team in Reality Labs, you will work closely with external development partners to inform the in-game and marketing art direction of a handful of large XR game titles, and contribute feedback and recommendations on the visual design of several dozen smaller titles. Reporting to the Director of Oculus Publishing, you will positively inflect external titles primarily through influence built through close partnership with key teams, expertly enhancing the creative ideas of our partners with feedback and data. You should welcome the tradeoff of not leading the visual design of your own single title, but rather being a critical stakeholder on several key titles and contributing to the growth of external teams that are leading the XR industry.
Art Director - Oculus Publishing Responsibilities
  • Work with external game developers to drive high visual quality for titles and promotional materials
  • Contribute to milestone and business reviews for in development titles
  • Contribute to greenlight decision making on a pipeline of funded content
  • Collaborate with developer support teams to define visual best practices for XR games
  • Deliver a successful slate of games in partnership with other leads of the Oculus Publishing group
Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in video game development
  • Shipped at least three game titles in an art role
  • Shipped at least one game title in an Art Director or equivalent role (leading the art pillar) for a 20+ person development team
  • High level of expertise in character and environment art, and history of working with UI, VFX, lighting, post-production elements, and marketing visuals such as logos, key art, and trailers
  • Knowledge of best practices in using Games User Research and other data driven approaches to inform both in-game and Marketing Art decisions
  • Familiarity with the VR content ecosystem
  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Shipped at least one XR title as lead of the art discipline
  • Shipped multiple titles leading the art discipline for development teams of at least 20 people
  • Experience evaluating milestone deliveries in art design
  • Experience presenting at Greenlight gate meetings and providing recommendations on whether to proceed from Pre-Production to Production
  • Proven experience contributing to art direction in a consulting role, a Publishing Art Director role, or intra-studio feedback structures, including but not limited to environment and character art feedback with 2D paint-overs
  • Demonstrated expertise in Technical Art discipline is a plus
