Job Description

As an Engineer specializing in Carpet, Acoustics & Trunk Trim, you will be responsible for the design release of interior components, their integration, and collaboration with various teams. You will work to develop optimal packages, optimize designs, and ensure components meet performance requirements. Your role includes managing suppliers, analyzing test results, and mentoring junior engineers. This is a hands-on role, with a focus on innovation and ensuring the final product meets all the required standards and regulations.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Minimum 8 years of product development and leadership experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of part capability studies and FEA.
  • Knowledge of CATIA V5/V6, Team Center, and MS Office.
  • Strong knowledge of DFMEA/PFMEA, DVP&R, DP's, CAE, & GD&T.
  • Strong knowledge of Compression Molding and material properties.
  • Strong knowledge of FMVSS Regulations and NVH.
  • Strong knowledge of fasteners required.
  • Experience working with Product Design Office.
Good to have:
  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Familiarity with Scout Motors business systems.
  • Experience with Shainin Red X and Kepner-Tregoe tools.
  • Experience with Design for Sigma (DFSS) using quality tools.

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Assume responsibility for the design release of the Interior Carpet & Acoustics components/assemblies and their integration into the vehicle. This includes system sourcing, packaging, drawing release, design validation, sub-system integration, ramp-up, and manufacturing support
  • Collaborate closely with the design studio and other engineering teams to develop optimal Carpet & Acoustics packages for interior styling
  • Work closely with the CAE team to provide design inputs and utilize CAE results to optimize the component design and performance
  • Use CAD software, to package components efficiently and robustly, optimizing for cost, weight, and commercial targets
  • Apply program management skills to ensure suppliers meet timing, quality, cost, and validation deliverables, serving as the main point of contact for all supplier interfaces
  • Ensure that failure avoidance tools and processes (DFMEA/FMA) are applied to all Carpet & Acoustics components/assemblies
  • Develop and manage the validation plan and test labs ensuring all components and sub-systems meet necessary performance requirements and regulations
  • Oversee supplier component DVP and control system level testing to ensure desired performance is achieved
  • Analyze test results and identify necessary adjustments to the Carpet & Acoustics components/assemblies or interfacing components to achieve the most effective resolution
  • Review and approve technical content of related changes throughout the development process
  • Act as coach and mentor for the Interior Carpet & Acoustics Engineering Group for design expertise and knowledge through educational training and hands-on instructions
  • Must have an understanding to translate Voice of the Customer needs into engineering metrics

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan.
  • The responsibilities of this role require 3-4 days attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Education/Certifications: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Years of Experience: Minimum of 8 years of Product Development and leadership experience in automotive industry, experience including 5 years in Interiors
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong background in product design, analysis, and development required
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills required
  • Knowledge of part capability studies, statistical analysis, and FEA required
  • Knowledge of CATIA V5/V6, Team Center, MS Office required
  • Substantial knowledge in DFMEA/PFMEA, DVP&R, DP's, CAE, & GD&T
  • Strong Knowledge of Compression Molding, and material properties
  • Strong Knowledge of FMVSS Regulations Related to Carpet & Acoustics
  • Strong Knowledge of NVH
  • Strong Knowledge of Fasteners
  • Experience working with Product Design Office
  • Experience with Shainin Red X and Kepner-Tregoe Reactive Problem solving tools
  • Experience with Design for Sigma (DFSS) using proactive quality tools
  • Result oriented, energetic self-starting leader with ability to direct cross-functional teams

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $120,000.00 - $135,000.00
