Job Description

As an Engineer - Thermal, you will be responsible for thermal and structural design of Electromechanical, Battery products and power electronics. You will work with a team of Mechanical Engineers designing and developing solar power microinverters, Energy storage systems, and other related equipment. The role also involves supporting released products and participating in cost reduction projects. The role involves the development of thermal and structural design solutions and working with component suppliers. You will also prepare test plans for validation following industry standards.
Must have:
  • Technical degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience or Masters with 1 year experience
  • Experience in thermal design of inverters and battery systems.
  • Good knowledge of product standards like IEC, UL & NEMA.
Good to have:
  • Experience with thermal simulation tools
  • Knowledge of thermal modelling of Circuit breakers and PCBAs
  • Experience in passive cooling techniques

About the role:


As a Engineer- Thermal, you will be proficient in Thermal and structural design of Electromechanical, Battery products and power electronics, you will work in a team of Mechanical Engineers who design and develop state-of-the-art solar power microinverter, Energy storage systems, Peripheral component interconnection equipment etc and work on day-to-day support of released products and cost reduction projects.

 

What you will do:

  •     Responsible for the development of thermal and structural design solutions and working with component suppliers like heatsink, fan, thermal pad, etc.
  •     Should have thorough knowledge of preparing test plans for validation of the analysis solution.
  •     Product qualification testing in environmentally controlled chamber at different ambient following industry standards/specifications.
  •     Responsible for Thermo-Mechanical and structural design from concept to final product.
  •     Work with global development and cross functional teams.
  •     Development of products for outdoor application which meets various Ingress Protection (IP) ratings.
  •     Interact with UL and other labs (CPRI, TUVE, etc) for conducting various experiments related to solar products for product validation.
  •     Complete documentation for simulation design, analysis and experimental/testing results

 

 

Who you are and what you bring:

 

  • A technical Degree (Bachelor or higher qualification) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2+ yrs related experience + BS OR Masters + 1 yrs in product development
  • Experience in thermal design of Inverters and Battery Energy storage systems development is preferred.
  • Good expertise in one or more Analysis Tools – Simcenter Flotherm, Icepack, Solidworks Flow simulation, ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL Multiphysics MSC Nastran etc
  • Able to prepare simplified CAD geometries to perform CFD simulations independently using Tools like Solidworks
  • Good fundamentals in Heat transfer, Fluid flow and CFD concepts
  • Good knowledge in product standards like IEC, UL & NEMA standards for different countries.
  • Good knowledge in Mechanical design standards for various products & experience in DFMEA analysis for new product development.
  • Experience of Thermal and Structural Mechanical design from concept to final product.
  • Experience and thorough knowledge of preparing test plans for validation of the analysis solution.
  • Knowledge in thermal modelling of Circuit breakers and PCBAs is an added advantage.
  • Experience in both thermal and structural simulations (FEA)
  • Experience in passive cooling techniques like heat pipe, Phase Change materials and other state of the art techniques.
  • Experience of working with global development and cross functional teams.
  • Ability to think laterally and solve unique problems.
  • Investigate, analyse and resolve product failures.
  • Should have experience on experimental techniques and methods using flow measurement devices, thermocouples, flow and thermal visualization tools.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
