Job Description

High Moon Studios seeks a passionate Gameplay Engineer to collaborate with content teams, creating and expanding gameplay systems. Responsibilities include collaborating with designers and animators, supporting the design department with generalist tasks, extending open-world systems, implementing, debugging, and optimizing major systems in C/C++, and handling bug fixes and polish. The ideal candidate possesses 5+ years of game development experience, excellent C++ skills, proficiency in 3D math, and strong communication skills. Experience in open-world development, player mechanics (especially in FPS), weapon systems, animation, multiplayer activity management, networked game logic, physics simulation, vehicle simulation, and AI is highly valued.

Your Mission

We are seeking a passionate Gameplay Engineer who will work closely with content teams to push our gameplay systems to new heights of fun and visual fidelity, crafting new systems and leveraging existing ones to realize immersive and exciting gameplay. This is a great opportunity to work with a passionate engineering team on the world’s most popular game franchises!

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, and the home studio for this role is Carlsbad, CA.

What you bring to the table

The video game industry and therefore our business is fast-paced and will continue to evolve. As such, the duties and responsibilities of this role may be changed as directed by the Company at any time to promote and support our business and relationships with industry partners. Therefore, this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with designers and animators to create new gameplay systems and expand existing ones
  • Support the design department by working on a variety of generalist tasks, to facilitate their efforts
  • Extend the usage of existing open world systems
  • Implement, debug and optimize major systems in C/C++ and other languages in the context of a large cross platform codebase
  • Bug fixing and polish tasks

Player Profile

Minimum Requirements

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in game development, including working on commercial titles
  • Experience extending an established code base

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent C++ programming skills, with knowledge of algorithms and data structures
  • Proficiency in 3D math, related to game programming
  • Solid debugging skills

Key Attributes

  • Strong design sensibilities and outstanding communication skills
  • A passion for making video games

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $77,500.00 - $143,376.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
