The Global Benefits Manager will be responsible for planning, evaluating, launching, and administering benefit plans globally, with a majority of focus on US and Canada benefits. This role ensures compliance with country legislation and employment laws, identifies opportunities for improvement, and administers existing North America benefit programs. Key responsibilities include US and Canada benefits program management, vendor management, cost management, collaboration with other HR teams, M&A support, optimization and improvement, compliance and risk management, employee communication and engagement, and data analysis. This role involves managing benefits programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and communicating benefits information to employees.
Must have:
  • 7+ years of experience in benefits management
  • Comprehensive understanding of North America and global benefits administration
  • Knowledge of benefits compliance laws and regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, etc.)
  • Experience with Workday or similar HRIS benefits administration system
  • Experience leading and driving strategic benefits programs in a multinational company
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with M&A PMI, global benefit portfolio design, and benchmarking
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail

Job Description

The Global Benefits Manager will be responsible for planning, evaluating, launching, and administering benefit plans globally, with majority of focus on US and Canada benefits. This role ensures compliance with country legislation and employment laws, identifies opportunities for improvement, and administers existing North America benefit programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • US Benefits Program Management: Administer US benefits programs, ensuring accurate enrollment, eligibility verification, leave of absence management, claims processing, and vendor management for all benefit programs.   Manage the annual benefit enrollment process including planning, communication, system testing and employee support.
  • Canada Benefits Program Manager: Oversee Canada benefits program with support from HR operations generalist.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with external vendors and consultants to ensure service delivery, performance, and cost-effectiveness. 
  • Cost Management: Ensure timely processing of benefit related invoices and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other HR team members that support global benefits to ensure programs in each country are properly inventoried and processes are documented and understood appropriate constituents (i.e. the HR Business Partner team, recruiting team and acquisition team). 
  • M&A Support: Lead diligence review of benefits for acquired companies and create an appropriate integration plan for companies existing benefit programs. 
  • Optimization and Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of benefits administration, including enhancements to our HRIS system, Workday. 
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure all benefits programs comply with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., ERISA, HIPAA, ACA). Stay updated on legislative changes and adjust programs accordingly.  Prepare and file required regulatory reports (e.g., Form 5500, ACA reporting, provincial filings).
  • Employee Communication and Engagement: Lead initiatives to educate employees about benefits programs and create clear and concise benefits materials, including presentations, guides, FAQs, and online resources.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze program data to assess effectiveness, utilization, and cost trends. Prepare detailed reports and present findings to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in benefits management
  • Proven comprehensive understanding of NA benefits and global benefits administration.
  • Strong knowledge of benefits compliance laws and regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Experience with Workday or similar HRIS benefits administration system and ability to work with HRIS team to make enhancements
  • Experience leading and driving strategic benefits programs in a multinational company.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with M&A PMI, global benefit portfolio design, and benchmarking.
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
