Job Description

Escape Velocity seeks a Lead Environment Concept Artist to spearhead environment design, including landscapes, architecture, and props. This role involves leading a team, mentoring artists, developing workflows, and creating high-quality concepts from ideation to final execution. Responsibilities include creating various visual assets (thumbnails, sketches, rendered concepts, etc.), collaborating with other disciplines, and ensuring artistic vision alignment. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience as an Environment Concept Artist with a proven ability to design diverse subjects across genres, expertise in various art styles, and exceptional graphic design skills. At least two AAA titles in a lead capacity are required.
Must have:
  • Extensive experience as Environment Concept Artist
  • Lead a team of artists and provide mentorship
  • Design diverse environments (landscapes, architecture, props)
  • Expertise in multiple art styles (stylized to semi-realism)
  • Exceptional graphic design, color, composition skills
  • AAA title experience in a lead capacity (at least two)
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

What we are looking for:

Escape Velocity is looking for a Lead Environment Concept Artist. You would be a great candidate for this role if you are a versatile concept artist with expertise in Environment Design including natural landscapes, architecture, and environmental props. We are looking for someone who can both set a high standard for the quality of our Environment Concept Art and lead a team of talented artists. If you are passionate about mentoring and inspiring others while delivering top-notch concept art, we’d love to hear from you.

Requirements

What we will do together:

  • Spearhead the design of new environments, natural landscapes, architecture and environmental props maintaining the core game vision set by the Art Director and Game Designers.
  • Lead the development of best practices/workflows to help the team deliver a high-quality end result that hits the timeline targets of our production.
  • Lead the Environment Concept team, providing feedback and mentorship to guide other artists towards excellence and alignment with the project’s vision.
  • Develop exceptional and innovative concepts from early ideation to final execution maintaining very high standards of quality.
  • Create thumbnails, sketches, rendered concepts, production callouts, storyboards, and provide feedback through paint overs to support the creation of environment assets
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to create high quality work throughout the project.

What you will bring:

  • Extensive experience as Environment Concept Artist with a proven ability to design a diverse variety of subjects across genres with a special focus on environments, natural landscapes, architecture and environmental props.
  • Expertise in executing concepts in a wide range of styles from stylized to semi-realism.
  • Exceptional sense of graphic design, colors, proportions, composition, and storytelling through visual design.
  • Creating work as an individual contributor that sets a high standard of quality and raises the bar of our environment concept art in both execution and ideation.
  • At least two AAA titles where you worked in a lead capacity.
  • Strong creative and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • General line manager duties.
  • Being an advocate for the artistic vision to make sure the Art Direction and Narrative is being reflected in the work through feedback, mentorship, and their own artwork.
  • Bonus for having experience working with outsourcing partners, a solid communicator who can help keep style and art direction consistent when collaborating with external partner.
