The Policy Specialist at Google's Trust & Safety team develops, launches, and implements policies ensuring user, advertiser, and publisher online safety. This role involves advising internal teams on core principles, designing policies to address abuse risks, and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders. Responsibilities include resolving high-profile policy issues, leading policy development for Google products, anticipating policy issues in controversial content areas, and reviewing sensitive content. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in a policy, legal, Trust and Safety, or technology environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • JD, MBA, or Master’s degree.
  • Experience with the development, implementation, and maintenance of policy.
  • Ability to translate complex issues into simple and clear language, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, and navigate organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.

About the job

Trust & Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic team-player with a passion for doing what’s right. You work globally and cross-functionally with Google engineers and product managers to identify and fight abuse and fraud cases at Google speed - with urgency. And you take pride in knowing that every day you are working hard to promote trust in Google and ensuring the highest levels of user safety.

As a Policy Specialist, you will work to develop, launch, and implement fair and consistent policies that protect the online safety of our users, advertisers, and publishers. You will advise internal Google teams on core principles, design policies and standards to address abuse risks and enable responsible growth. In addition, you will engage with subject matter experts and cross-functional stakeholders across Google to design thoughtful cross-product area approaches on key priorities.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $102,000-$150,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Resolve high-profile policy issues, coming from the public, users and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams globally to ensure policy analysis and recommendations consider all teams’ perspectives.
  • Lead, develop and implement content policies for Google products, with a view towards user safety, product quality and privacy.
  • Anticipate policy issues in various controversial content areas as it relates to our product and technology platforms and develop policies and enforcement recommendations on how to address them.
  • Review or be exposed to sensitive or graphic content as part of core role.
