Job Description

Tesla Energy seeks a Product Engineer to contribute to the deployment of Megapack energy storage solutions. Responsibilities include diagnosing equipment malfunctions, developing internal software tools and dashboards for service teams, performing data analysis to identify root causes of failures, collaborating with cross-functional teams, driving design enhancements, handling escalated customer cases, and leading the commissioning of energy storage systems. The role requires proficiency in troubleshooting electrical, networking, and software/firmware issues, data analysis using Python/SQL, and familiarity with Linux and mechanical/electrical schematics. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess strong communication skills, and be comfortable with travel.

What to Expect

Tesla Energy is actively seeking a motivated and dynamic Product Engineer to play a pivotal role in the successful deployment of Megapack energy storage solutions. In this role, you will actively contribute to the advancement of our internal software tools designed for Service Engineering and Field Teams. You will engage in data analytics to gain valuable insights into various use cases and field-related challenges

A key responsibility of this role involves the meticulous identification of root causes behind design, process, or firmware failures within our expansive fleet of energy storage systems.

What You’ll Do
  • Rapidly diagnose malfunctioning equipment to ascertain the underlying cause of the outage and expedite restoration of normal operations.
  • Innovate and construct internal software tools and interactive dashboards tailored for the Service Engineering and Field Service Team.
  • Aggregate and synthesize fleet data, constructing analytical tables and dynamic dashboards to facilitate meticulous tracking and comprehensive reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the field team, engineering, software/firmware experts, to pinpoint the root causes of product field failures.
  • Drive enhancements through targeted interventions in design, software/firmware development, or manufacturing processes.
  • Pinpoint the underlying causes of equipment malfunctions, orchestrating prompt restoration of operational functionality.
  • Offer expertise in handling escalated customer cases, striving to curtail system downtime and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Effectively oversee concurrent internal projects, adeptly adhering to deadlines, and excelling within high-pressure environments
  • Lead the commissioning of utility-scale and industrial energy storage system projects, encompassing activities such as configuring SCADA systems, networking, HMI setup, and executing performance and compliance tests.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor or Masters in electrical or electronic engineering
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience, and recent graduates encouraged to apply
  • Solid foundation in engineering principles and intuitive problem-solving, applied to firmware/software-enabled mechatronic systems.
  • Proficiency in effectively diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical, networking, software/firmware, or process failure modes.
  • Competence in network diagnostics, encompassing routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Experience using Python, SQL or equivalent for data analysis.
  • Familiar with Linux operating systems
  • Capability to interpret and apply mechanical drawings and electrical schematics to practical problem-solving.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, coupled with a collaborative approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, delivering concrete results, while remaining adaptable and responsive to evolving requirements.
  • Attentive to quality, with a keen eye for detail in all undertakings.
  • Anticipated willingness to undertake work-related travel, which may include both interstate and international trips if necessitated.
