The R&D Verification Engineer II will be responsible for testing ANSYS applications like MAPDL, ensuring product functionality, usability, and adherence to quality standards. This role involves close collaboration with the product creation team, communication with technical specialists, and research into new engineering features for creating test cases. The engineer will create and maintain automated testing scripts and participate in requirements planning and defect investigation. The engineer will also be responsible for applying standard techniques and procedures and complying with the company's overall development and testing processes.
Must have:
  • Specify and write test cases for physics simulations
  • Perform functional and regression testing
  • Create test plans and participate in defect management
  • Analyze requirements and develop tests for new features
  • Work in various computing environments (Windows, Linux, etc.)
Good to have:
  • MS or PhD in Engineering, specializing in computational methods
  • Technical knowledge of ANSYS APDL or similar FEA software
  • Experience with high-performance computing for simulations
  • Experience in programming or scripting languages (Python, bash)
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Summary / Role Purpose  

The R&D Verification Engineer II joins the Mechanical Business Unit to conduct software testing of ANSYS applications such as MAPDL. This role assesses how well the product meets customer needs, both in terms of functionality and usability, and ensures that product requirements and quality standards are satisfied. The role works closely with other members of the product creation team and communicates with technical specialists on product issues. The R&D Verification engineer will research new engineering features to create analytical and user scenario test cases to evaluate the functionality and performance of capabilities being added to our engineering simulation software.  As part of the software testing of the Mechanical APDL product, an R&D Verification engineer creates and maintains automated testing scripts and software tools.  This person participates in requirements planning, design reviews, and investigating defects.  

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Specify and write test cases, create, modify, and update existing tests, write and maintain test scripts for a wide range of physics simulations 

  • Perform functional, application, regression, and performance testing in manual and/or automated test environments and investigate possible causes of problems 

  • Create test plans, participate in defect management, and testing metrics 

  • Apply standard techniques and procedures and comply with the company's overall development and testing processes​ 

  • Analyze requirements and develop tests suitable for new features within the MAPDL product. Research literature for reference solutions. 

  • Work in a variety of computing environments: Windows, Linux, Virtual, Compute Clusters, Cloud 

  • Participate in design and code reviews and in the planning and implementation of verification initiatives 

  • Improve and deploy testing strategies and methodologies for the automation of tests 

  • Work closely with other members of the product creation team and communicate with technical support specialists on product issues 

  • Coordinate with other teams to address cross-team dependencies 

 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience 

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering with 2 years of experience, or a Masters degree

  • Strong academic background in Continuum/Structural Mechanics  

  • Strong background in Finite Element or other Numerical Methods 

  • Two (2) years of experience in a related position performing linear and nonlinear multiphysics analysis using a single solver or using Co-simulation 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

  • MS or PhD in Engineering, specializing in computational methods for multi-disciplinary engineering simulation 

  • Technical knowledge and experience with the usage of ANSYS APDL or similar FEA software in an engineering environment 

  • Strong desire to work on cross-disciplinary engineering projects across teams 

  • Good attention to detail and ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and workstreams 

  • Ability to work autonomously, passion for exploring new topics, and strong troubleshooting skills 

  • Experience using high-performance computing for computer simulations 

  • Experience in one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python and bash 

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
