About the job:
Google is seeking a Regulatory Counsel, Privacy to join its global team. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in advising on global privacy and data protection laws, with a strong understanding of regulatory landscapes in the EU/UK. This role involves interpreting laws, collaborating with internal stakeholders to mitigate risk, and communicating compliance efforts externally. The position is based in Brussels, Belgium, and requires fluency in French and English.
Must have:
  • JD, equivalent degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar in the EU/UK and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law.
  • 10 years of work experience as in-house legal counsel or in private practice in an international setting.
  • Experience advising on global privacy and data protection laws.
  • Experience engaging with regulators, including EU data protection authorities, global data protection or consumer protection authorities.
  • Experience developing, evaluating, and maintaining programs to comply with laws, regulations, and external commitments.
Good to have:
  • 5 years of experience with legal, regulatory or corporate compliance in the field of privacy and data protection.
  • Experience working with public company boards and their counsel.
  • Experience working with technology companies and understanding complex technical issues while managing projects and partnering with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to communicate in French and English fluently to support client relationship management in this region.

Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, equivalent degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar in the EU/UK and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the country in which the position is located.
  • 10 years of work experience as in-house legal counsel or in private practice in an international setting.
  • Experience advising on global privacy and data protection laws.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience with legal, regulatory or corporate compliance in the field of privacy and data protection, including addressing, minimizing and avoiding regulatory risk.
  • Experience engaging with regulators, including EU data protection authorities, global data protection or consumer protection authorities.
  • Experience developing, evaluating, and maintaining programs to comply with laws, regulations, and external commitments.
  • Experience working with public company boards and their counsel.
  • Experience working with technology companies and understanding complex technical issues while managing projects and partnering with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to communicate in French and English fluently to support client relationship management in this region.
