Job Description

As a Senior SDET, you'll be a QA expert, mentor, and developer, building testing tools, automation frameworks, and identifying areas for automated testing. You'll develop test framework features for developers and testers, providing guidance and expertise to improve Epic's testing. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining test tools and automation frameworks, building backend services, owning large initiatives across multiple teams, planning and implementing complex system-level test scenarios, enabling automation test script creation, implementing best practices, and mentoring SDET/QAE members. You'll also track performance metrics, optimize processes, and collaborate with engineers and QA across teams and projects. Experience with Java is required, with proficiency in Python, Typescript a plus. Knowledge of microservices, databases (Mongo, SQL, Dynamo, Spark), build/test orchestration tools (GitHub Actions a plus), and cloud infrastructure (AWS a plus) are highly valued.

The Quality Assurance team owns the testing process, risk management, and quality evaluation of all products and functions across Epic. Our team works closely with developers and production to ensure the best possible user experience for our community and customers.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test, you are a QA expert, mentor, and developer who thrives and excels at delivering results at scale. Your primary role will be building testing tools, automation frameworks, and collaborating to identify areas suitable for automated testing. You will develop test framework features to enable developers and testers to author automated tests. SDETs will look to your guidance and expertise to further improve the testing space at Epic. We are looking for teammates who are passionate about upstream technical testing while developing tools, automation, and capacity engineering to raise the quality bar while advancing your technical capabilities and knowledge.

In this role, you will

  • Work on a team that aims to grow test automation and scale services and tooling to meet the needs of Epic’s portfolio
  • Design, develop, and maintain test tools and automation frameworks. This includes building backend services to facilitate testing needs
  • Have autonomy and ownership of large initiatives, spanning across multiple teams, determining the goals for the team
  • Plan, design and implement complex system level test scenarios
  • Enable developers, testers, and analysts to author automation test scripts, implement automation best practices, and help lay the foundation of scalable automated test solutions; mentor SDET/QAE members across the organization
  • Track performance metrics, testing patterns, optimize product verification and release processes, collaborate with Engineers, QA, and other SDETs across teams and projects
  • Build relationships and partnerships with internal customers and stakeholders across Epic

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience owning design, implementation, deployment, and maintenance of tooling, services, and automation frameworks - ideally built from the ground up
  • Experience with Java required; proficiency with Python, Typescript, and other languages a big plus
  • Good knowledge of how micro-services work and operate in the eco-system of an application
  • Experience working collaboratively with team members on a common codebase using version control tools (e.g., Perforce, Git)
  • Experience with databases (Mongo, SQL, Dynamo, Spark); development in backend services and integrations are a huge plus
  • Knowledge or experience with build and test orchestration tools. GitHub Actions is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with building and implementing cloud infrastructure into testing infrastructure (AWS is a plus)
  • Experience with Polyglot development, working between full-stack systems; i.e. a full-stack web application (service and frontend)
  • Games industry experience is a plus

This role is open to multiple locations across the US (including CA & WA).

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).

$155,111$227,495 USD
