Senior Software Engineer, Performance Infrastructure
Job Summary
Job Description
This Senior Software Engineer role within Google's Chrome team focuses on performance infrastructure. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, launching, and deploying code; collaborating with domain experts, UX, and product management; aligning technical decisions with customer needs; developing maintainable software and infrastructure; and promoting best practices in design, development, security, and software maintenance. The position requires strong expertise in data structures, algorithms, and software development (Go, Java, C++ preferred), along with experience in large-scale infrastructure and distributed systems. The goal is to enhance the speed and efficiency of Google's 2D and 3D graphics library.
Must have:
- 5+ years software development experience
- Data structures & algorithms expertise
- Large-scale infrastructure experience
- Experience with Go, Java, or C++
- Design, implement, and launch code
Good to have:
- Experience with Python, C, JavaScript
- Web/mobile app development experience
- Unix/Linux environment expertise

Job Details
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms and software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Go, Java, or C++), or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
- 2 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
Preferred qualifications:
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
- 3 years of experience working with one or more of the following: web or mobile application development, Unix/Linux environments, distributed and parallel systems, machine learning, information retrieval, natural language processing, networking, developing software systems, or security software development.

- Design, implement, launch and land code.
- Work with domain experts, UX, and PM to translate organizational needs into technical decisions.
- Align technical decision-making with desirable customer outcomes.
- Develop software and infrastructure with a focus on long-term maintainability.
- Help organizations adopt industry best-practices around design, development, infrastructure, security, privacy, and software maintenance.
