Job Description

As a Technical Director, Machine Learning Programmer at Epic Games, you'll guide the technical direction of the Advanced Analytics and ML Services team. Responsibilities include championing cross-functional ML integration, prioritizing solutions with stakeholders, leading the ML leadership team, and collaborating with other technical leaders. You'll work on design, architecture, and execution of systems supporting batch and real-time ML workloads, focusing on recommendation engines, hyper-personalization, and serving API-first data products. Mentoring data scientists and programmers is also a key part of the role. This involves building scalable solutions for various business functions, including recommendations, language modeling, graph analytics, and player behavior modeling at a large scale.
Must have:
  • 5+ years senior-level Data Science & ML experience
  • Technical leadership experience
  • Cloud-based big data tool expertise (AWS, Databricks)
  • Experience with Kafka, Spark, MLOps tools (MLFlow preferred)
  • Proficiency in Python (Scala, Java, GoLang beneficial)
  • API-first data product development using microservices architecture
  • Experience building infrastructure for recommendation engines and hyper-personalization

What You'll Do

In this position, you will help guide the technical direction of Epic's Advanced Analytics and ML Services team. The group is responsible for designing and implementing scalable solutions for batch and real-time workloads for serving models and their outputs. We build foundational production-grade systems that support R&D and exploratory stages and serve various business functions across the company, including recommendations, language modeling, graph analytics, and player behavior modeling. The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative individual who is driven first and foremost by seeing the team succeed and is enthusiastic to take on the opportunity to make big advancements and define best practices in Machine Learning at a blazingly fast Big Data scale when building player-facing data products.

In this role, you will

  • Champion cross-functional Machine Learning integration efforts, driving integrations across the data ecosystem
  • Work closely with stakeholders, software and data programming teams, and analytics leadership to prioritize solutions and ensure incremental delivery in ways that drive the most impact while aiming for longer-term visions
  • Lead and also be a pivotal part of the Machine Learning leadership team with direct reports
  • Stay connected to the systems being built across the organization, working directly on design, planning, architecture, and execution
  • Collaborate with other technical leaders across Epic to foster cross company visibility and alignment on technical approaches
  • Mentor and coach Data Scientists and programmers across the organization

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 5 years of senior-level Data Science and Machine Learning Programming experience in a data-­driven information environment, designing and implementing analytic/data systems,­ ideally in a AAA video gaming or streaming entertainment context and at a similar scale
  • Prior experience in a technical leadership role
  • Detail­-oriented and comfortable working with requirements that are open-ended
  • Deep experience and familiarity with cloud-based big data tools and services for real-time and batch ML applications, such as Kafka, Spark and MLOps tools (MLFlow Preferred), to serve API-first data products following microservice architecture
  • Ideal candidate has strong experience building infrastructure for recommendation engines and hyper personalization
  • Experience working in a cloud based environment, ideally familiar with the AWS and Databricks toolset
  • Expertise in one or more programming languages (Python preferred, Scala and Java beneficial, GoLang is also a plus)
  • Passion for video games and/or video game technology

This role is open to multiple locations in North America (including CA & WA).

Pay Transparency Information

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).

Washington Base Pay Range
$187,594$275,138 USD
