Tesla seeks a Vision Systems Engineer for its Gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg. Responsibilities include selecting, installing, and programming vision camera systems (Cognex, Fanuc), programming industrial robots (KUKA, FANUC), optimizing automated lines, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis. The role requires expertise in image processing, robotics, PLC programming (Siemens a plus), Python/SQL scripting, and experience with automotive manufacturing. The engineer will collaborate with support functions to ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality implementation of new equipment. They will also develop and improve equipment validation procedures, provide hands-on maintenance support, and interface with Tesla's MES and production quality databases.
Must have:
  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • Proficient in robotics (KUKA, FANUC)
  • Image processing expertise (Cognex, etc.)
  • Python/SQL programming skills
  • PLC programming (Siemens a plus)
  • Automotive manufacturing experience

What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Controls Engineer for General assembly team to be part of a world-class team of engineers responsible for designing, building and sustaining Robotic and vision equipment at the Tesla factories. As a Controls Engineer, you are responsible for implementing equipment controls solutions projects. This includes implementation of automated equipment such as, robotics, test equipment, vision inspection, etc. Controls Engineers own the design, programming, commissioning and review process of the project as well as additional functions such as auditing, installation and safety assessment.
Collaborate with support functions try to the best to solve all those problems beforehand, so that the implementation of the new equipment in time, on cost, in quality.
What You’ll Do
  • Select, install and program and optimize code for vision camera systems fully automated according to the project needs (Cognex, Fanuc cameras as examples) such as inspection, quality control or precise component installation in vehicle with moving conveyor.
  • Program and teach industrial 6-axis robots (Kuka and Fanuc) Sequence complex, multi-station machinery for material pick-and-place, dispense, fastening, welding and conveyance applications
  • Responsible for continuous process optimization of automated lines Become owner / subject matter expert to drive equipment-related process improvement including detailed troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Plan design and implement automated robotics systems for manufacturing / quality control
  • Program and calibrate robots and vision system for specific application connecting data with several TESLA subsequent system for live making decisions as well as archive.
  • Optimize systems by adjusting parameters and implementing new control strategy, best case develop own algorithm for image processing
  • Interface process and test equipment with Tesla MES and production quality databases using Python scripting and SQL Develop and improve equipment validation procedures including calibration and qualification
  • Provide hands-on support to maintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve extended downtime situations
  • Familiarity with SPC and development of equipment-related OCAP
What You’ll Bring
  • BS in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in Controls engineering
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good overall computer skills with demonstrated ability in a programming language such as Python, C++ or similar (for image processing and automation)
  • Proficient in robotics handling and programming (e.g. KUKA, FANUC)
  • Proficient with image processing technologies / 3D cameras such as ISRA, Keyence, COGNEX, ect.
  • SIEMENS PLC programming knowledge is a plus
  • Able to work under intense time pressure in the presence others
  • Experience in automotive or high volume manufacturing is highly desired
  • Willing to work days, afternoons, nights and weekends as determined by project needs
