As the Esports Product Manager for TFT & Emerging Esports (TFT, FFGS, and select future games) at Riot Games in Shanghai, you'll spearhead the strategic development and execution of a thriving competitive ecosystem in China. Collaborating with publishing partners, internal teams, and global esports colleagues, you'll craft holistic experiences for players, fans, and organizations. Responsibilities include managing product experience, P&L, strategy, and competitions; aligning with global esports vision; working with external vendors and teams; maximizing monetization opportunities; designing optimal business models; maintaining industry awareness; and leveraging global partnerships. You'll report to the VP of Esports, China, ensuring alignment with the regional strategy.
Must have:
  • 5+ years competitive product management experience
  • Experience in online/offline sports event production
  • Community management expertise
  • Strong communication & strategic skills
  • Ability to negotiate deals with stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Good to have:
  • Experience in sports organizations
  • Live event organization experience
  • Esports business experience from league operator and pro team perspectives

As the Esports Product Manager for TFT & Emerging Esports (TFT, FFGS, and select future games), you will drive the strategic and executional efforts of building a thriving competitive ecosystem for the TFT franchise and Riot’s new titles in China together with our publishing partners. Your strategic vision, entrepreneurialism, product management skills, operational excellence and passion for esports will help you to establish new standards in amateur and professional esports. In order to create holistic, best-in-class experiences for players, fans and esports organizations, you will partner with different stakeholders, organizations and teams from our local teams of publishing, production, broadcast, business development, league management and operations to the global esports team in Los Angeles.

You will report to the VP of Esports, China to align your product strategy with our overall esports strategy for the whole region.

Responsibilities:

In this role, your responsibilities may evolve over time to align with the changing needs of our organization.

  • Manage the holistic product experience, P&L, strategy and competitions in China for the titles under your scope. 
  • Align with Global Esports and different partners within Riot as well as external parties towards a shared vision and roadmap for new games, and develop a comprehensive launch plan.
  • Work with external teams and vendors to ensure the new games esports experiences are consistent with global strategy but also adaptable to the local market.
  • Work with BD teams to help maximize monetization opportunities for the competitions.
  • Work with Global Esports to design and build the best strategy and business model for Organized Play games competitions.
  • Maintain deep understanding and current awareness of the esports, sports and entertainment industry.
  • Optimize China’s opportunities by partnering with global vendors that can work across both territories.
  • Partner with the global team to operate Global Events, such as TFT Championships, leveraging your deep relationships with vendors that understand our titles.
  • Manage remote contractors to unlock operational capacity and institutional knowledge in China.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in competitive product management; experience in online / offline SPORTS event production; experience in community management
  • Bachelor’s degree in Product Management or a related field, or equivalent experience with a strong project management acumen and problem solving skills.
  • Your passion for video games or sports is what drove you to the industry; you love games and sports offline and online. 
  • Ability to develop trusted relationships and achieve results through influence across organizations, senior management,  leadership.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to deliver clear communications in 1-to-many settings.
  • Strong knowledge of the esports industry in China
  • Strategic skills, with experience setting a clear strategic vision and translate that vision into a cohesive portfolio of competitive products;
  • Ability to negotiate and accomplish deals with tournament organizers, production companies, broadcasters and media groups.
  • Whether you're planning a milestone, giving a presentation or shooting off a quick email you look at work under a microscope and hold yourself to a consistent high bar.

  • Experience in sports organizations
  • Experience organizing live events
  • You know how to accomplish deals with tournament organizers, production companies, broadcasters and media groups
  • Experience with esports business from the league operator and pro team perspective.
