Job Description

The European Union Partnerships Intern will be part of WRI Europe’s team focused on engagement and development with European Union institutions. The intern will support work across four key pillars: engagement, policy, partnerships, and funding. Responsibilities include assisting with outreach, organizing meetings, preparing materials, conducting research on EU funding, and providing briefings on EU policy developments. The intern will also support administrative tasks as required. The internship is for six months, starting September 22, 2025.

About the Program:
WRI Europe collaborates with the European Union institutions, the European Investment Bank, and a wide range of stakeholders to support Europe’s global leadership on climate, development, and environmental issues.
 
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain experience within an international NGO dedicated to advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement. As an intern, you will gain insight into how the EU and (I)NGOs work together to drive impactful development outcome, particularly in the areas of climate action and environmental sustainability.
 
 
Internship Highlight:
In this role, you will be part of WRI Europe’s team focused on engagement and development with European Union institutions. You will support work across four key pillars: engagement, policy, partnerships, and funding. Responsibilities include assisting with outreach to EU organizations and partners, organizing meetings, and preparing presentations, briefs, and other materials. You will also conduct research and analysis on EU funding opportunities, including research and innovation funds, development cooperation grants, and tenders, and support internal coordination around these opportunities, and provide briefings on relevant EU policy developments aligned with WRI’s priorities.
Your internship supervisor will be Janneke de Vries, Head of The Hague regional office and Director of European Partnerships.
 
What you will do:
Partnerships & Development (80%):
  • Monitor and provide insights on relevant EU policy developments to inform WRI’s engagement
  • Analyze the policy priorities of European Union institutions, and identifying possible overlaps with WRI’s program of work    
  • Draft briefings for our Global Programs and International Offices on EU political, economic, and development-related updates and opportunities.
  • Strengthen internal coordination and knowledge-sharing on EU engagement, including through updates to WRI’s intranet and internal communication channels
  • Assist in developing social media content related to EU policies
  • Support the management WRI’s partnership related to the EU, such as the Systems Transformation Hub
  • Maintain and update partner contact information to strengthen strategic collaboration 
  • Other assignments as needed in raising WRI's profile with EU institutions and agencies
Support (20%): 
  • Assist with meetings management, including drafting briefings, and other external communication tasks   
  • Assist with logistical preparations for (online) conferences, workshops and visits of high level WRI staff to the WRI Europe office, including organizing meetings and travel   
  • Other administrative tasks as required. 
What you will need:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in international relations, environment studies, development studies, political science or related field (graduate program preferred)
  • Good understanding of working of EU institutions  
  • Interns at WRI Europe must be registered in a study program with a Dutch college or university for the full duration of the internship. 
 
Conditions of the internship:
  • This is a 6 month internship with a start date of 22 September 2025.
  • This internship will be based at the WRI Europe office in the Hague with some flexibility to work from home.
  • This internship offers a reimbursement of 700 euros per month based on full-time working hours (32 hours per week).
