Job Description

The Field Service Engineer will provide field support for the engineering deployment team, assisting with on-site commissioning and deployment of system hardware, data servers, power supplies, weather stations, and basic SCADA systems. Responsibilities include helping deliver engineering projects, resolving advanced issues, commissioning and validating data, deploying and troubleshooting IP LAN/WAN designs, reviewing Scope of Work documentation, providing customer inquiries, documenting troubleshooting steps, and providing training. The role requires 5+ years of experience or 8+ years of equivalent experience, with the ability to travel 50-80% across the United States.
Must have:
  • Onsite field experience or applicable relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of Modbus/DNP3/OPC protocols, datatypes, and ability to learn large software systems.
  • Demonstrate excellent writing skills for clear and professional documentation.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while onsite, ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Windows and UNIX troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to work effectively without direct supervision.
Good to have:
  • Knowledge of DNS, TCP/IP and other internetworking concepts preferred.
  • Renewable energy, Fire alarm/suppression, BMS or SCADA experience valuable.

What we are looking for:

Stem is a leading provider of renewable energy monitoring systems.  The Field Service Engineer is responsible for providing field support for the engineering deployment team by assisting with on-site commissioning and deployment of system hardware, data servers, power supplies, weather stations, and basic SCADA systems. This is a mid-level position with large growth opportunity into the SCADA, Controls, Storage and Renewable Energy industries. This person will also work on other engineering projects as required. We are willing to train the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Helping Stem deliver engineering projects to our customers onsite. 
  • Working with our Engineering Team to resolve more advanced issues when necessary.
  • Commissioning and Data Validation of field hardware and software.
  • Deploy and troubleshoot IP LAN/WAN internetworking designs.
  • Reviewing Scope of Work (SOW) documentation.
  • Provide clear and accurate answers to customer inquiries regarding the specific requirements of their solution.
  • Final documentation and reporting for completed renewable energy deployments.
  • Documenting troubleshooting and problem resolution steps of service impairments.
  • Providing training and documentation to Stem Employees and Customers as required.
  • Providing technical support internally for more complex issues escalated from our Support Group.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience, or 8+ years of equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Onsite field experience or applicable relevant experience.
  • Must be able to travel 50-80% across the U.S. to support field operations as needed.  
  • Knowledge of Modbus/DNP3/OPC protocols, datatypes, and ability to learn large software systems.
  • The ability to learn and adapt to large software systems.
  • The ability to be a good listener, understand a problem and find a holistic solution.
  • Demonstrate excellent writing skills for clear and professional documentation, reports, and customer correspondence.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while onsite, ensuring client satisfaction through professional communication, problem-solving, and hands-on support.
  • Windows and UNIX troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to work effectively without direct supervision, managing tasks, priorities, and problem-solving independently while ensuring high-quality results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of DNS, TCP/IP and other internetworking concepts preferred.
  • Renewable energy, Fire alarm/suppression, BMS or SCADA experience valuable.

Salary Range

$72,560.00 - $108,840.00
