As a Principal Research Scientist at LandingAI, you will shape AI strategy, lead innovation in multimodal AI systems, and develop novel machine learning algorithms. You will mentor a team of machine learning engineers, fostering technical growth and innovation. The role involves defining and executing an innovative AI roadmap, driving the design, development, and integration of advanced multimodal AI systems, and developing novel machine learning algorithms to tackle unsolved challenges in Visual AI. This role requires strong leadership skills and a passion for applying AI to solve complex, real-world problems.

Must have:

PhD in machine learning, computer vision, or a related field
10-15+ years of professional experience in AI research and development
Deep knowledge of large multimodal models and fine-tuning techniques
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams
Willingness to work from our Palo Alto office at least three days a week

Position Overview

Shape AI Strategy: Collaborate with company leadership to define and execute an innovative AI roadmap, ensuring alignment with our mission to lead in Visual AI
Lead Innovation: Drive the design, development, and integration of advanced multimodal AI systems into our products, leveraging cutting-edge advancements in vision and language models
Pioneer Solutions: Develop novel machine learning algorithms to tackle unsolved challenges in Visual AI, opening new opportunities for our customers
Inspire and Mentor: Lead, mentor, and elevate a team of machine learning engineers, fostering technical growth and innovation across the organization

What We’re Looking For

Expertise: PhD in machine learning, computer vision, or a related field, with 10–15+ years of professional experience in cutting-edge AI research and development
Leadership: Visionary leader with a proven track record of driving successful AI projects and mentoring technical teams
Technical Excellence: Deep knowledge of large multimodal models, fine-tuning techniques, and agentic frameworks, particularly in vision and text applications
Visionary Thinker: A passion for innovation and a keen interest in applying AI to solve complex, real-world problems
Collaborative: Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams and with executive leadership
In-Person Presence: Willingness to work from our Palo Alto office at least three days a week to engage closely with the team
