Overview

Founded in 2023, Millions of Monsters is all about game design innovation. We’re inspired by games that raise the bar on gameplay, and we’re wiring ourselves to be able to quickly discover innovative game ideas and successfully bring them to market. We’re funded by all-star investors. Our team is highly passionate & enjoys working hard on games that inspire us!

Our first game is an innovative PC FTP PvP strategy game inspired by classic chess, and it has shown very positive results in early community playtesting. We're now hiring our first producer as we ramp into pre-production

What you will achieve

As our first full-time producer, you’ll be deeply involved in working with every discipline in the company (which is currently ~15 people) as an IC. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Understand the overall timelines and milestones, and the commitments we must deliver for each milestone (across all disciplines)

  • Represent the detailed timeline (Jira) and ensure each discipline / individual is tracking towards the timeline, across full-time employees as well as contractors / outsourcing

  • Work with all the individuals in the main disciplines (art, engineering, design, product management, etc.) to understand their workflows, interdependencies, etc. so that they are all moving as efficiently as possible

  • Identify and solve productivity blockers in the team and explore the use of new tools, AI, etc. to improve output without compromising quality or creative integrity

  • Help with other activities that don't fill into core disciplines (e.g., planning team events, celebrations)

What will make you successful

This is a very fulfilling role but not an easy one, because we are moving fast and have never had a producer so you will need to create organization from scratch! Thankfully you will have passionate, talented, and caring teammates who will be keen to work with you (a producer is the team's top request!). You’ll be most successful if you have:

  • Professional experience as a producer, particularly for new game titles pre-launch and then during launch and liveops. 3-5+ years professional experience in production ideally for games / creative products. Experience with games pre-launch is a big benefit -- you will be creating many of the frameworks from scratch

  • Understanding of the language & workflows of the disciplines in modern game development. Art is a big one, followed by gameplay engineering, but also understanding (or being keen to ramp-up on understanding) other live game disciplines such as product management, social media marketing, etc.

  • Outstanding organization and detail-orientation. Do you love Jira and other organization tools? Timelines? Mapping out interdependencies between people's workflows? Making sure the task checkboxes are getting filled in on time?

  • Great empathy, relationship building, and listening, as well as convening people. Really getting to know and understand the workflow of individuals on the team, building trust with them, helping identify things that may be slowing them down. Also you will have to be comfortable convening the right people on the team to solve workflow issues / misalignments whenever you detect them

  • Excellent problem-solving. You can understand people's workflows in different contexts (engineering, art, design, etc.), identify what's holding them back, and find clever ways to solve them (e.g., by changing the scope, scoping out new tools, etc.)

  • Love for pushing the bar on productivity. As a startup, we do work harder than your "typical 9 to 5" out of passion for the product. However, we believe productivity is much more about creating greater output per hour than spending more hours -- this can be done through amazing prioritization, anticipation of challenges up ahead, curiosity about new tools especially those taking advantage of AI (which we view as a force-multiplier, not as a replacement for people), etc.

  • Comfortable with coordinating across timezones. Our people span ~10 hours of time zones, so how we create structure and order in that framework is a challenge

How we work

As a small and empowered team by design, we seek team members who want (and can handle) immense trust, freedom, and responsibility, as well as the opportunity to help shape everything across the game (and studio!). Some of our working norms:

  • Moving fast and being scrappy, spending time where it counts. We have big ambitions and need to deliver with limited resources and time, without causing crunch for the team. This requires us to be very focused and to understand the point of diminishing return for various activities

  • Embrace ownership, autonomy, and accountability, and demand it from peers. This isn’t big corporate where your job is influencing large teams. This isn’t about micromanaging or receiving micromanaging from others. This is about rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty as a team, and pushing ourselves as well as our peers to excellence -- this role is an IC role as well

  • Love our game and love games in general. This kind of innovative work requires passion for our game (including regular playtesting) and games in general. Ideally you also love chess, but not required

  • First-principles mindset and strong personal convictions, balanced with humility & teamwork. We seek talented game developers with strong opinions and logic for their opinions, based on intuition, experience, and facts. However, game dev is a team sport, and creative projects require multiple minds to get right, so we expect great communication and teamwork skills to win as a team

  • Comfort with ambiguity. Startups naturally shift focus as they learn. You should be ready for this and excited about (or at least comfortable with!) dealing with ambiguity, with an ability to pivot as needed

  • Wearing many hats. As in any startup, there are many things to do and we won’t have dedicated team members for each task. You’ll need to be comfortable wearing many hats, sometimes outside your core expertise (within reason)

  • Have fun! We feel privileged that we get to work in such an exciting industry, and to have such a big positive impact on players. While the work can be challenging and require us to grow ourselves, we love having fun as a team and we channel that into our craft

What we offer

  • Expected salary range: $80-150k based on experience, with company equity package

  • In-person work culture in Austin (including relocation budget to Austin if needed)

  • Competitive health, dental, vision, and life insurance

  • 15 days PTO + holidays off
