As a Quantitative User Experience Researcher (Quant UXR), you’ll help inform your team of UXers, product managers, and engineers about user needs. You’ll play a critical role in creating useful, usable, and delightful products. You’ll work with stakeholders across functions and levels and have impact at all stages of product development. You will investigate user behavior and user needs using empirical research methods such as logs analysis, survey research, path modeling, and regression analysis. Quant UXRs vary in background and use skills from computer science, quantitative social science, econometrics, data science, survey research, psychology, human-computer interaction, and other fields. You’ll combine skills in behavioral research design, statistical methods, and general programming to improve user experience. The Quantitative UXR community at Google will help you do your best work. You’ll have the opportunity to work with and learn from UXRs across Google through regular meetups, mentor programs, and access to internal research tools.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in an applied research setting, or a similar role.
  • Experience in programming languages used for data manipulation and computational statistics (Python, R, MATLAB, C++, Java, Go), and with SQL.
Good to have:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in leading survey design, including question construction, sampling, weighting, and analysis and developing survey measures or coursework in psychometrics.
  • Experience in data visualization techniques and tools.
  • Experience working across organizational boundaries to define, manage, and prioritize work.
  • Ability to communicate complex data to stakeholders at various levels, from product teams to executive leadership.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $168,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design and execute research about users’ trust and safety needs, and create the most trusted products and platforms. Develop statistical models to analyze data sets and understand user behavior.
  • Develop surveys to assess users' experiences and identify opportunities to improve trust and safety across Knowledge and Information products.
  • Generate new insights into what drives trust for users and provide leadership with a well-founded point of view (POV). Partner with various researchers to validate, test, triangulate data from qualitative data sources. Define processes and procedures for scaling Quantitative User Experience Researcher (UXR).
  • Define quantitative User Experience (UX) goals and metrics in collaboration with UX designers, Qualitative UXRs, Engineering, and Product Managers (PM) to drive product excellence.
  • Collaborate with trust and safety researchers across Google to drive more consistent, sensitive, and generalizable methods for measuring user sentiment.
