Job Description:

As the Senior Materials Artist, you will work closely with the Art Leaders and Directors to develop the material pipeline as well as the material library to be used across both character and environment assets. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality material work through artistic and technical knowledge across a variety of content types. As a versatile artist and developer, you will educate and mentor others to maintain PBR standards while creating visually appealing results.

Responsibilities

  • Use bleeding edge techniques to create and integrate a variety of material work for natural environments, architecture, and characters.
  • Maintain PBR authoring standards, conveying those guidelines to the team around you.
  • Coordinating with art leads, design, and production to help plan and accomplish the strategic goals of the material team.
  • Be an active participant in team discussions, critiques, and reviews to ensure timely completion of material work on style and at the desired quality bar.
  • Set the standards and best practices for the material team to ensure texture libraries are organized, optimal and efficient.
  • Remain current on industry trends including advancement in commercial game engines and workflow efficiencies.
  • Partner with other artists, designers, and engineers. We build our games collaboratively.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience.
  • Proven Experience, having shipped a major title in a relevant role.
  • Substance Designer and Painter expertise.
  • Experience working with AAA game engines with a strong understanding of implementation and integration into the pipeline.
  • Expert understanding of Material creation including strong proficiency in industry-standard workflows and bleeding edge techniques.
  • Experience solving complex pipeline problems and collaborating with engineers and tech artists.
  • A team-oriented approach to your work, understanding the importance of collaboration, and partnering with all departments.
  • Self-motivated and detail conscious approach to work.

Extra Points

  • Your work experience is in the AAA space
  • You have a passion for photography or reference gathering.
  • You consume a ton of games, movies, animation, or other creative things.
  • Experience working through early development R&D phases of a project is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of game art creation outside of material work (e.g. Concept, Lighting, 3D Art, Rendering).

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $80,800.00 - $149,400.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
