Senior Performance Engineer

In this role, you will:

• Lead performance testing efforts, including developing test plans, defining performance metrics, and creating test scenarios to assess feature performance under various conditions.
• Conduct load, stress, scalability, and endurance testing to evaluate the system's ability to perform under heavy load and extended periods of usage.
• Design and implement automated performance tests using industry-leading tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, etc.).
• Collaborate with development and testing teams to understand software requirements and performance objectives and to identify performance bottlenecks and troubleshoot issues.
• Analyze test results to identify performance bottlenecks, and provide actionable insights into system performance, recommending improvements or optimizations
• Help with the identification and resolution of performance-related defects throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Create and maintain performance test scripts and ensure their accuracy and reliability.
• Prepare detailed performance reports/documents and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Stay up to date with emerging performance testing trends and contribute to the continuous improvement of performance testing methodologies/framework, tools, and best practices to enhance test coverage and accuracy.
• Mentor and guide junior performance engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices.
• Be a customer advocate – identify feature enhancements and usability improvements that enhance the experience of a customer using MarkLogic products while keeping the focus on performance.
• Be an active participant in product requirements, functional specification and design specification reviews
• Possess good communication skills to interact with both local and remote teams effectively.

Your background:

• 5+ years of experience working in a Performance (System & reliability testing) position on a Database Search Engine.
• Proven experience designing and executing server-side performance tests for a backend system/search engine.
• Solid debugging skills and interest in working on Server-side and REST APIs.
• Hands-on experience with performance testing tools like JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, etc.
• Expertise in identifying performance bottlenecks at the system, network, and database level.
• Solid knowledge of both on-premise and cloud-based (AWS & Azure) systems.
• Knowledge of containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture.
• Familiarity with performance monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, AppDynamics, or similar.
• Proficient in scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, or shell scripting for automation purposes.
• Hands-on experience delivering test automation leveraging Agile process and CI/CD frameworks

Additionally, it would be beneficial if you have:

• Strong problem-solving, documentation and analytical skills
• Familiarity with search technologies and prior experience working with search engines is a plus.
• Effective communication with the stakeholders and development team to help identify issues and suggest potential solutions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Working knowledge of groovy to help configure continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines is preferable.
• Enterprise-level databases experience (Oracle, DB2, SQL Server and MySQL) is a plus. 
• Experience/familiarity with XQuery is a plus.
