Job Description

The Senior Software Engineer, Core Data role at Google involves building the technical foundation behind Google's flagship products. Responsibilities include writing and testing code, participating in design reviews, leading a team of 3-5 engineers on Indexing Engine development, reviewing code, building and rolling out projects, and triaging product issues. The Core team focuses on building central solutions, breaking down technical barriers, and strengthening existing systems across Google's products. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in software development (Java or C++), data structures/algorithms, software testing and maintenance, and software design and architecture. Experience with large-scale distributed systems and building experimentation solutions is preferred. The role demands technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Must have:

5+ years software development experience
Experience with Java or C++
Data structures/algorithms expertise
Software testing and maintenance
Software design and architecture experience

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in CS
Technical leadership experience
Large-scale distributed systems experience
Experimentation solution experience
Independent project completion ability

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java or C++), and with data structures/algorithms.
3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
Experience in building large-scale distributed systems.
Experience in building experimentation solutions.
Ability to design and complete projects independently.
Ability to ramp up and learn quickly in a technically complex domain.

Responsibilities

Write and test product or system development code. Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
Lead a team of 3-5 engineers to drive outcomes of Indexing Engine development experience solutions.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Build and roll out projects with quality and speed, including end-user documentation, production deployment/monitoring, process automation, and customer support as needed.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
