Job Description

Google is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join their AI/ML team. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in software development, data structures/algorithms, design and architecture, testing/launching software products, and experience with one or more of the following: Speech/audio, reinforcement learning, ML infrastructure, or specialization in another ML field. The candidate will also have 7+ years of experience leading technical project strategy, ML design, and optimizing industry-scale ML infrastructure. Responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing large-scale software solutions, providing technical leadership on high-impact projects, managing project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, facilitating alignment and clarity across teams, influencing and coaching a distributed team of engineers, and driving technical project strategy, leading large-scale ML infrastructure optimization, and overseeing the design and implementation of solutions across multiple specialized ML areas.

Must have:

8 years of experience in software development
5 years of experience with design and architecture
5 years of experience with one or more of the following: Speech/audio, reinforcement learning, ML infrastructure, or specialization in another ML field
7 years of experience leading technical project strategy, ML design, and optimizing industry-scale ML infrastructure

Good to have:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.
5 years of experience with one or more of the following: Speech/audio (e.g., technology duplicating and responding to the human voice), reinforcement learning (e.g., sequential decision making), ML infrastructure, or specialization in another ML field.
7 years of experience leading technical project strategy, ML design, and optimizing industry-scale ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $237,000-$337,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
