About the job

SummaryBy Outscal

Escape Velocity seeks a Senior Systems Designer with 2+ years of AAA game experience in designing and iterating on systems for player investment, like battle passes and monetization frameworks. Expert knowledge of design tools, Unreal Engine (UE5 preferred), and major metagame systems is essential. Data-driven design, strong communication, and player-first approach are key.

Description

What we are looking for:

Escape Velocity is looking for an experienced Systems Designer. You are a master of spreadsheets, possess strong analytical skills, and love the challenge of interpreting large amounts of data and determine the right knobs to turn to give players a fantastic metagame experience.  Your Excel knowledge is strong, your systems design is top notch, and your understanding of major game systems is unparalleled.  You are exactly the designer we need for an exciting new AAA IP at Escape Velocity Entertainment.

Requirements

What we will do together:

  • Design and iterate on systems across a broad range of key game initiatives, focused on fun and engaging ways for players to spend time and money (e.g., battle passes, monetization frameworks, reward-unlocks, and related features).
  • Collaborate closely with the Game Director, Design Director, Systems Design Lead, and with cross-functional teams including product managers, engineers, artists, UX/UI, and data analysts, to develop systems that create best-in-class, player-centric experiences.
  • Proactively design and optimize systems that improve player experiences related to earning and purchasing content, with a focus on healthy long-term engagement and monetization.
  • Champion data-driven design, leveraging analytics, player feedback, and market insights to iterate on systems and enhance the overall player experience.
  • Advocate for the player at all times, putting the player experience first when considering and making all design decisions.

What you will bring:

  • A can-do attitude that is player oriented…systems design is one of the most technical areas of design, but you remember that simplicity is often a player’s best friend.
  • At least two shipped AAA games where you worked in a systems design capacity on initiatives related to player investment, i.e. systems and features supporting how players spend time and money to earn content.
  • Expert knowledge of off-the-shelf design tools, and expertise with Unreal Engine (UE5 preferred)
  • Professional understanding of the many major metagame systems found in contemporary game titles, and a keen know-how for how those systems work.
  • Leadership skills that include truly caring about the career growth of those that work for you and around you.
  • Strong creative and technical problem solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills

We strive to give everyone autonomy so they can determine how best to work and play, and we care more about what you bring to the game and studio than how many hours clocking. We believe in constant improvement across all areas – from the game itself to our production design – and are constantly re-evaluating how we spend our time to ensure that not wasting and all always working on the most important things. Finally (and importantly) dedicated to building a culture of play, which not only makes us better game makers, but also strengthens the bonds between us all.
