Job Description

Walt Disney Imagineering seeks Ride Controls Systems Engineers to design, develop, and implement control systems for complex and innovative ride systems. Responsibilities include managing the entire system lifecycle, from conception to commissioning; conducting systems engineering; defining system use cases and user needs; developing requirements and specifications; ensuring safety standards compliance; performing engineering design and analysis; developing control strategies and algorithms; researching new technologies; collaborating with other engineers; developing implementation plans and budgets; and leading testing efforts. This involves working on diverse teams in a highly collaborative environment and potential for international travel.
Must have:
  • Fail-safe control system design
  • Control system installation & commissioning
  • Proficiency in industrial control systems
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (TCP/IP, CAN, etc.)
  • Functional safety standards (IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO 13849)
  • Technical documentation skills
Good to have:
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Matlab, Simulink, Solidworks
  • Rockwell & Siemens automation systems expertise
  • Motor & motion control knowledge
  • Pneumatic controls experience
  • Control system theory knowledge (closed-loop, MIMO systems)
  • International amusement industry standards knowledge

Ride Control Systems Engineers work within Imagineering’s Ride Studio in a highly collaborative environment on diverse teams.  Engineering activities cover all aspects of ride control system design and implementation, from concept to commissioning, for a wide variety of innovative ride platforms.

These are Full-Time roles.

Responsibilities:

Manage entire scope to conceive, design, & deliver control systems for a wide variety of complex and innovative ride systems and related equipment.

Conduct systems engineering for ride control systems.

  • Define system use cases and user needs.

  • Develop and capture requirements and functional specifications in documents, drawings, and models.

  • Ensure compliance with control system safety standards.

Perform engineering design and analysis for ride control systems.

  • Develop control strategies and algorithms.

  • Research new products, technologies, and methodologies.

  • Design, model, and analyze control systems, data communication, and dynamic systems.

Collaborate with other design and engineering professionals to implement ride control systems.

  • Develop implementation plans and budgets.

  • Develop and implement mock-ups and prototypes for proof-of concept efforts.

  • Develop test requirements and documents, and lead testing efforts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experienced in fail-safe and safety-related control system design

  • Extensive knowledge of control processors, components, and communication networks

  • Highly proficient in industrial control system installation, integration, and commissioning

  • Solid understanding of communication protocols: TCP/IP, CAN, serial, ProfiNET, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT

  • Experience with requirements management, test plans/procedures, and test execution

  • Demonstrated practice in functional safety standards, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO 13849

  • Familiarity with amusement and automation industry standards, including ASTM F2291

  • Solid skills in technical document writing

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for 1-week to 3-year durations

  • Ability to handle multiple complex efforts simultaneously, coordinate team efforts, and manage tasks and priorities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient with engineering design tools, including AutoCAD, Matlab, Simulink, Solidworks

  • Proficient in Rockwell and Siemens automation systems architecture and components

  • Expertise in motor and motion control methods and components

  • Knowledge of pneumatic controls and devices

  • Experience in broad application of control system theory (closed-loop control, MIMO systems, positioning and navigation)

  • Knowledge of international amusement industry standards applicable in France, Hong Kong, or China

Education:

Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering field from an accredited university

This posting is seeking candidates to fill multiple roles in Glendale, California. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
- The hiring range/pay rate for Principal Ride Controls Systems Engineer is $149,300.00 to $200,200.00 per year.
- The hiring range/pay rate for this Senior Ride Controls Systems Engineer is $123,900.00 to $166,200.00 per year. 

- The hiring range/pay rate for this Staff Ride Controls Systems Engineer is $112,600.00 to $151,000. per year.
