Job Description

This Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) role at Google Cloud focuses on ensuring the availability, scalability, efficiency, and latency of critical services. Collaborating with development teams, the SRE will contribute to projects vital to Google Cloud's success, responding to and resolving problems, and developing automation to prevent future issues. The role involves working on large-scale, massively distributed systems, optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure, and applying expertise in coding, algorithms, and system design. The SRE team fosters a collaborative culture and values diversity, intellectual curiosity, and problem-solving. Responsibilities include working on availability, scalability, efficiency, and latency of critical services; contributing to critical projects; resolving problems and developing automation; and fostering a strong team culture.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree in CS or related field
1 year experience with data structures/algorithms
Software development experience
Problem-solving skills
Effective communication

Good to have:

Large-scale systems design experience
Software engineering experience

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
1 year of experience with data structures/algorithms and software development in one or more programming languages

Preferred qualifications:

Experience in large-scale systems design.
Experience with software engineering.
Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with effective communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.

About the job

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SRE ensures that Google Cloud's services—both our internally critical and our externally-visible systems—have reliability, uptime appropriate to customer's needs and a fast rate of improvement. Additionally SRE’s will keep an ever-watchful eye on our systems capacity and performance.

Much of our software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. On the SRE team, you’ll have the opportunity to manage the complex challenges of scale which are unique to Google Cloud, while using your expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity analysis and large-scale system design. Responsibilities

Work on the availability, scalability, efficiency and latency of one of Google Cloud’s most critical services, collaborating with the development teams on design, architecture, and processes.
Contribute to projects critical to Google Cloud’s success.
Respond to and resolve problems, then develop software and automation to prevent them from happening again.
Participate in fostering a great team culture, and collaborate with our development partners in California and Bangalore.
