Job Description

This Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) role at Google focuses on maintaining engineering excellence for Telecommunication Infrastructure (TI) and Cloud turnup. Responsibilities include code review, documentation updates, issue triage and resolution, and leading design reviews. The ideal candidate will have experience with data structures/algorithms, software development (Java, Python, Go, C, C++), and large-scale distributed systems. The role involves optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure, and automating tasks to manage the challenges of scale unique to Google Cloud. Must have:

Bachelor's degree in CS or related field
2+ years experience with data structures/algorithms
Software development experience (Java, Python, Go, C, C++)
Experience with large-scale distributed systems
Debugging, code optimization, and automation skills

Good to have:

Experience in computing, distributed systems, storage or networking
Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience with data structures/algorithms and software development in one or more programming languages (Java, Python, Go, C, C++).

Preferred qualifications:

Experience working in computing, distributed systems, storage or networking.
Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
Ability to debug, optimize code, and to automate routine tasks.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

About the job

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SRE ensures that Google Cloud's services—both our internally critical and our externally-visible systems—have reliability, uptime appropriate to customer's needs and a fast rate of improvement. Additionally SRE’s will keep an ever-watchful eye on our systems capacity and performance.

Much of our software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. On the SRE team, you’ll have the opportunity to manage the complex challenges of scale which are unique to Google Cloud, while using your expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity analysis and large-scale system design. Responsibilities

Maintain engineering excellence on both Telecommunication Infrastructure (TI) and Cloud turnup.
Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
Lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide among available technologies.
