Job Description

Google Cloud's Staff Software Engineer role involves developing and maintaining highly scalable and reliable back-end services for distributed database systems. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining these services, owning sub-module development, architecting and maintaining codebases, conducting code reviews, and mentoring junior team members. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in software development, testing, and launching software products, along with a strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Product, UX, UI, and customers, is also a key aspect of the role. The engineer will contribute to a high-performing and innovative environment, driving the development of user-friendly experiences for customers.

Must have:

8+ years software development experience
5+ years testing & launching software
Data structures/algorithms expertise
Software design and architecture experience
High-quality, scalable code production

Good to have:

Master's degree in related field
Technical leadership experience
Cross-functional project experience
C++ programming and frameworks knowledge
Storage technology knowledge (SAN, NAS, Object Storage, Cloud Storage)

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
Experience in C++ programming language and frameworks.
Knowledge of Storage technologies (e.g., SAN, NAS, Object Storage and Cloud Storage).

Design, implement, and maintain highly scalable and reliable back-end services that have demanding performance requirements.
Own the development and execution of sub modules, fostering innovation and pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
Architect and maintain high-quality and well-documented code bases.
Conduct code reviews to ensure the team's output meets standards.
Guide and mentor junior team members, fostering their technical growth and career development.
