Scout Motors is offering a 2025 Summer Internship for Design and Vehicle User Experience. Interns will gain hands-on experience in the EV landscape, working on projects aligned with Scout's goals. The program runs from mid-May to mid-August 2025, requiring on-site presence in Novi, Michigan. Responsibilities include assisting with user research, analyzing data, supporting usability testing, and creating user journey maps. Interns will work with the Vehicle User Experience (VUX) team and contribute to the evolution of design concepts.
Must have:
  • Enrollment in a bachelor's degree program (Sophomore or higher)
  • Ability to work from Novi, MI from mid-May to mid-August 2025
Good to have:
  • Strong interest in electric vehicles and automotive engineering
  • Proficiency in design and research tools (e.g., Sketch, Figma)

Scout Motors Internship Program

We will provide aspiring professionals with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with our talented, inclusive, and entrepreneurial teams. Undergraduate Interns will immerse themselves in the EV landscape, gaining exposure to the latest trends, technologies, and market dynamics. Interns will be assigned meaningful projects aligned with Scout’s goals. These projects will challenge interns to apply their academic knowledge in real-world scenarios, fostering problem-solving skills and creativity while working under the mentorship of our leaders.

This program is designed for current undergraduate students who live in our local market. Please note that no housing stipend is provided. 

2025 Internship Program Overview

  • Schedule: The program is anticipated to run mid-May to mid-August 2025
  • Duration: Our internship program runs approximately 12 weeks, with the official end date varying dependent upon student needs and the start of respective Fall academic calendars
  • Transportation + Housing: our Interns will be responsible for providing their own housing and transportation

Important Notes:

  • Scout Motors will not provide relocation or sponsorship as part of our Internship program
  • High preference for currently enrolled Bachelors degree students
  • Deadline: applications for the program must be received no later than May 12, 2025. 

Location & Travel Expectations: This role is on-site, and will be based out of our Scout Motors location in Novi, MI. The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. 

Housing & Sponsorship: Scout Motors does not provide visa sponsorship or housing assistance for internship positions.

About the team

Vehicle User Experience Team within Scout is a collaborative and innovative group dedicated to enhancing the journey of electric vehicle ownership. Comprised of a group of passionate designers and UX researchers, our team focuses on creating intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that cater specifically to the needs of modern EV drivers. We work closely with engineers and software developers to bring to life user-centric designs that are as functional as they are aesthetically pleasing. We embrace rapid prototyping, feedback loops, and iterative testing to ensure that every feature is tailored to the evolving expectations of EV drivers.

This role is specifically designed to support the VUX team in delivering an exceptional user experience by assisting in conducting research, gathering insights, and contributing to the evolution of our design concepts to meet the needs of our customers.

Daily Responsibilities of the Internship Program include

  • Assist in planning and conducting user research, including interviews, surveys, and focus groups.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify user needs, preferences, and pain points.
  • Support the design and execution of usability testing for new features and prototypes.
  • Assist in synthesizing research findings and develop actionable insights.
  • Create user journey maps, and other related deliverables to communicate research results effectively.
  • Help maintain documentation and reports related to research activities and findings.
  • Assist in creating and cataloging industry trends and best practices in UX research and electric vehicle technology.

  • Must be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program for Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Technology Innovation, Psychology or a similar field as a Sophomore or higher
  • Must be able to work from Novi, MI from mid-May to mid-August 2025.
  • Strong interest in electric vehicles, automotive engineering, and sustainable transportation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive and results-driven mindset.
  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in design and research tools (e.g., Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and project management tools is preferred.

Pay Transparency

This is a paid internship program.

Hourly pay rate = $25 per hour
