The Role

The APAC Retail Commercial Manager is an amazing opportunity for a well-rounded commercial leader with a passion for the retail industry and fast paced environment. Reporting into the APAC Financial Director, the role supports the strategic direction and commercial growth of the APAC business by providing financial oversight, strategic planning, analysis and commercial insights, including establishing and leading strategic projects.

This position will be based in Canberra at Trek support office.

Responsibilities

Financial Oversight and Strategic Planning

  • Preparation of the annual retail budget and reforecasts, focusing on strategic levers for growth and cost savings.
  • Provide financial modeling and scenario analysis for long-term strategic planning and risk assessment.
  • Monitor financial performance to identify necessary actions to improve sales, profitability, and operational efficiency.

Commercial Insights and Data-Driven Recommendations

  • Analyse store performance, trends, customer feedback and market conditions to identify revenue growth opportunities, cost reduction, and operational efficiencies.
  • Provide actionable insights and strategic recommendations to optimize retail sales, customer experience, and margin improvement.
  • Manage dynamic dashboards and reports for clear data presentation to support decision-making

Retail Strategy and Improvement Initiatives

  • Collaborate with retail management to identify and implement strategic projects for profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance in-store operations, including inventory management and staffing optimization.
  • Support leadership with ad-hoc analysis and business cases for evaluating new initiatives and investment decisions.

Cross Functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with regional and global stakeholders to align strategies and drive shared retail objectives.
  • Partner closely with marketing, buying, inventory, finance, and operations teams to ensure cohesive execution of business strategies.
  • Act as the retail insights lead, presenting data-driven recommendations to stakeholders across functions and markets.

Process Optimization and Automation

  • Drive continuous improvement in retail data management, reporting, and analysis processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Lead automation projects to streamline analytics and reporting, reducing manual effort and speeding insight delivery.
  • Ensure alignment of reporting tools and processes with global standards, while addressing regional needs

Key Skills, Experience & Attributes Required to be Successful in the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally in retail or with experience across stores and support functions. APAC experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills across data analysis and financial modeling using Excel and Power BI.
  • A Strategic thinker, connecting data insights to business goals, creating long-term strategies aligned with objectives.
  • Sound commercial acumen with a deep understanding of retail drivers—sales, margins, inventory, customer experience, and market trends.
  • Clear communication to be able to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights, tailoring communication to the audience.
  • Collaboration: Builds strong relationships, working across teams
  • Problem-Solving to identify inefficiencies and offers practical, creative solutions to optimize operations.
  • Technical proficiency as an expert in retail systems and data tools, leading automation and reporting improvements using OLAP Cubes and Power Query.
  • Detail-Oriented, ensures accuracy, consistency, and timeliness in reporting and insights.
  • Adaptability - thrives in a dynamic retail environment, adjusting strategies based on new data or changing conditions.

Being an APAC role, flexibility to meet with international colleagues at a mutually beneficial time will be regularly required. There may also be a need to travel from time to time.
