Job Description

Microsoft's AI team is seeking Applied Science Interns for its Suzhou and Beijing offices for the Summer of 2025 (June-September). Interns will work on real-world projects, collaborating with global teams to improve the performance of advanced algorithms on large-scale datasets. Responsibilities include analyzing data, developing scalable AI systems, understanding research techniques and industry trends, preparing data for analysis and modeling, and adapting cleaned data for machine learning purposes. The internship offers opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge products like Copilot, Bing, and Microsoft Ads, using state-of-the-art tools to impact product quality and business outcomes.
Must have:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • At least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining after internship

About the team:

 

MAI is hiring Applied Scientist Interns in Suzhou and Beijing. 

 

The Microsoft AI team is dedicated to creating world-class internet products, experiences, and services. Our department is responsible for the technological development and operational management of an array of products, including Copilot, Edge browser, Bing search, Microsoft Ads, Microsoft Maps, Microsoft Weather, and Content Consulting. We are committed to continuously investing in the development of a new portfolio of artificial intelligence products.

 

Internship Period: Summer of 2025 (Jun.~Sep.)

 

Target candidates: University students from related major

 

Location: Beijing/Suzhou, China

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Must have at least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field

 

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and improve performance of advanced algorithms on large-scale datasets and cutting-edge research in machine intelligence and machine learning applications.
  • Think through the product scenarios and goals, identify key challenges, then fit the scenario asks into Machine Learning (ML) tasks, design experimental process for iteration and optimization.
  • Implement prototypes of scalable systems in AI applications.
  • Gain an understanding of a broad area of research and applicable research techniques, as well as a basic knowledge of industry trends and share your knowledge with immediate team members.
  • Prepare data to be used for analysis by reviewing criteria that reflect quality and technical constraints. Reviews data and suggests data to be included and excluded and be able to describe actions taken to address data quality problems.
  • Assist with the development of usable datasets for modeling purposes and support the scaling of feature ideation and data preparation.
  • Help take cleaned data and adapt for machine learning purposes, under the direction of a senior team member
