Job Description

Microsoft's AI team seeks Applied Scientists (last year students/fresh graduates) to help integrate new technologies into production. Responsibilities involve advancing state-of-the-art AI techniques, bridging research and development, collaborating with various teams (Research Scientists, software engineers, program managers), contributing to technology transfer into products (Copilot, Bing, Edge, etc.), and potentially architecting new AI products. The role includes understanding relevant research, contributing to patents and white papers, developing internal tools, consulting with product groups, preparing data for analysis, and adhering to ethics and privacy policies. The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (Statistics, Computer Science, etc.) and relevant internship experience.

About the team:

 

The Microsoft AI team is dedicated to creating world-class internet products, experiences, and services. Our department is responsible for the technological development and operational management of an array of products, including Copilot, Edge browser, Bing search, Microsoft Ads, Microsoft Maps, Microsoft Weather, and Content Consulting. We are committed to continuously investing in the development of a new portfolio of artificial intelligence products.

 

Target candidates: Last year students / Fresh Graduates (Graduation time: 9/2024~8/2025) from related major.

 

Work Location: Beijing/Suzhou, China

 

As an Applied Scientist, you will help instantiate new technology into production by advancing the state-of-the-art internally and externally to address product needs. You will act as the “and” in R&D by blending techniques of both researchers and development teams to drive innovation from theory into reality. This opportunity will allow you to work on the design, development, execution and implementation of technology research projects in collaboration with Research Scientists, software engineers, program managers and others, either serving as a catalyst for technology transfer into products and services or architecting and engineering such products and services directly.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or currently pursuing a degree) in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND relevant internship experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Master's Degree (or currently pursuing a degree) in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience

 

 

Responsibilities

  • You will gain an understanding of the latest research related to Microsoft products or business groups and assists in technology transfer attempts, contributing to patents, co-authoring white papers, developing or maintaining tools/services for internal Microsoft use, or consulting for product or business groups.
  • You will gain an understanding of a broad area of research (e.g., Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Statistical Modeling, Data-Driven Insights) and the corresponding literature and applicable research techniques.
  • You will help reinforce a positive environment by learning and adopting best practices and maintain or develop ties with external network of peers and identify prospective talent for Microsoft research pipelines, when asked.
  • You will assist with documentation for senior team members as requested and participate in the creation of informal documentation as well as follow ethics and privacy policies when executing research processes and/or collecting data/information.
  • You will prepare data to be used for analysis by reviewing criteria that reflect quality and technical constraints and review data and suggests data to be included and excluded to address data quality problems.
