31st Union seeks a dedicated Associate Character Artist to create high-end game characters for their new project, ETHOS. Responsibilities include developing high-poly and game-ready 3D character meshes from concept art, creating textures and shaders, and collaborating with other artists (animators, technical artists, Art Director) to ensure optimal in-game performance. The role requires proficiency in Maya (or 3ds Max/Blender), ZBrush, Substance Painter, Marmoset Toolbag, and Photoshop. Strong artistic skills, anatomical knowledge, and excellent communication are essential.
Must have:
  • High-poly and game-ready 3D character modeling
  • Texturing and shading expertise
  • Proficiency in Maya/3ds Max/Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Marmoset Toolbag, Photoshop
  • Strong artistic abilities and anatomical knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with Substance Designer
  • Unreal Engine 5 experience
  • Experience with project tracking tools (Jira, etc.)

We are currently working on Project ETHOS, a new free-to-play, 3rd person rogue-like hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the genre!

What we need:

We are looking for a dedicated Associate Character Artist to join our team and bring expertise, motivation, and a mature abilities. They will define, develops, and maintains high-end-run game characters. The Character Artist works closely with the Lead Artist, Lead Animator, Lead Technical Art and Art Director, and also with animators and cinematic editors to create the best possible impression in the final game.

Responsibilities:

  • Create the best possible 3D character high-poly and game meshes from concept art and reference materials, character textures and shaders, clothing, hair, and styling
  • Adapt to the concept and art direction of the project
  • Make proper character topology to keep the finished models working well in-game
  • Self-education in terms of graphics and keeping track of the latest trends in the given field

Required Qualifications:

  • Portfolio demonstrating strong artistic abilities
  • Demonstrable knowledge of technical and artistic skills.
  •  Knowledge of Maya (or 3ds Max or Blender), ZBrush, Substance Painter, Marmoset Toolbag and Photoshop
  •  Knowledge of human anatomy, facial expressions, ability to capture personality
  •   Knowledge of sculpting, drawing or painting in the classic technique
  • Advanced written and spoken English
  • Good communication skills

Relevant experience: 

  • Experience with Substance Painter and Substance Designer
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 5
  • Experience with some tracking/scheduling tool (Hansoft, Jira, Shotgun, Trello, …)
