As Associate Art Director (World and VFX), you'll ensure the artistic vision is consistently applied across all projects. Collaborate with artists (concept, modelers, lighters, VFX, level designers) to create a cohesive game world in Unreal Engine 5. Responsibilities include artistic representation for co-development, maintaining world coherence, collaborating on concept art, acting as a liaison with the Art Director in China, conducting team meetings, and enhancing visual quality. You'll translate ideas into concept art, provide references, and balance artistic aspects with technical constraints. The role requires strong communication skills across departments and a deep understanding of art principles and game engines.
Must have:
  • 5+ years AAA game industry experience with art leadership roles
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D art tools and game engines (Unreal Engine 5)
  • Strong grasp of art principles (design, composition, color theory)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to translate artistic vision into game assets

En tant que directeur artistique associé couvrant le monde et les VFX, vous veillerez à ce que notre vision artistique soit non seulement comprise, mais aussi appliquée efficacement dans tous les projets. Vous travaillerez aux côtés d'artistes conceptuels, de modeleurs et de concepteurs de niveaux pour créer un environnement de jeu cohérent et visuellement époustouflant.

Principales responsabilités :

  • Représentation artistique : Servir de représentant artistique pour nos efforts de codéveloppement, en s'engageant auprès de l'équipe principale pour discuter de la narration, de la conception du jeu, des capacités techniques et de la vision artistique globale.
  • Vision artistique : Veiller à ce que la vision artistique soit appliquée de manière cohérente, en collaborant avec les artistes conceptuels, les modeleurs, les éclairagistes, les artistes VFX et les artistes de niveau dans un contexte historique réaliste.
  • Cohérence du monde : Maintenir la cohérence du monde du jeu et sa qualité visuelle dans Unreal Engine 5, en faisant des suggestions pour enrichir la vision et créer une expérience immersive et emblématique pour les joueurs.
  • Collaboration : Travailler avec les artistes pour traduire les idées en concept art, en fournissant des références inspirantes et pertinentes pour guider l'équipe.
  • Relais de communication : Assurer la liaison avec le directeur artistique en Chine, en supervisant le contenu dans le cadre du mandat de notre studio. Être un représentant de leur vision artistique tout en représentant nos intentions de gameplay auprès de leur directeur artistique.
  • Réunions d'équipe : Organiser des réunions régulières avec votre équipe pour donner et recevoir des commentaires, partager des suggestions, fixer des étapes et équilibrer les aspects artistiques avec les contraintes techniques.
  • Amélioration visuelle : Collaborer avec les artistes de l'éclairage pour améliorer la qualité visuelle globale du jeu.

Qualifications :

  • Bonne connaissance des principes de base de l'art (tels que le design, la composition, l'architecture, l'anatomie et la théorie des couleurs) et de la manière dont ils s'adaptent à l'élaboration du style artistique d'un jeu vidéo.
  • Familiarité avec les moteurs de jeu (comme Unity ou Unreal) et leurs contraintes, ainsi que maîtrise des outils artistiques 2D et des progiciels 3D.
  • Expérience dans l'industrie du jeu vidéo AAA, y compris des rôles de leadership dans l'art pendant 5 ans.
  • Solides compétences en matière de relations interpersonnelles et de présentation.
  • Une approche ouverte d'esprit, accueillant de nouvelles idées et perspectives.
  • Compétences de communication efficaces entre les départements, permettant des

Associate Art Director

We are a co-development video game studio based in Montreal, Canada, committed to delivering exceptional gaming experiences. Our team collaborates closely with our headquarters in China.

As the Associate Art Director covering world and VFX, you will ensure that our artistic vision is not only understood but also effectively applied across all projects. You will work alongside concept artists, modelers, and level designers to create a cohesive and visually stunning game environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Artistic Representation: Serve as the artistic representative for our co-development efforts, engaging with the core team to discuss narrative, game design, technical capabilities, and the overarching art vision.
  • Artistic Vision: Ensure the artistic vision is consistently applied, collaborating with concept artists, modelers, lighters, VFX artists and level artists within a realistic historical context.
  • World Coherence: Maintain the coherence of the game world and its visual quality inside Unreal Engine 5, making suggestions to enrich the vision and create an immersive, iconic experience for players.
  • Collaboration: Work with artists to translate ideas into concept art, providing inspiring and relevant references to guide the team.
  • Communication Relay: Act as a liaison for the Art Director in China, overseeing content within our studio’s mandate.  Being a representative for their Art Vision while at the same time representing our gameplay intentions to their Art Director.
  • Team Meetings: Conduct regular meetings with your team to give and receive feedback, share suggestions, set milestones, and balance artistic aspects with technical constraints.
  • Visual Enhancement: Collaborate with lighting artists to enhance the overall visual quality of the game.

Qualifications:

  • A strong grasp of the basic principles of art (such as design, composition, architecture, anatomy, and color theory) and how they adapt to building a video games’ art style.
  • Familiarity with game engines (like Unity or Unreal) and their constraints, as well as proficiency in 2D art tools and 3D packages.
  • Experience in the AAA video game industry, including leadership roles in Art for 5 years.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • An open-minded approach, welcoming new ideas and perspectives.
  • Effective communication skills across departments, enabling comfortable
  • interactions with various disciplines (programming, design, animation, etc.)
