Job Description

This Energy and Power Risk Engineer role involves delivering risk management and insurance support to clients by accurately representing their risk profile. The responsibilities include conducting energy surveys, collaborating with a global team of risk engineers, developing thought-leadership publications, and improving process safety performance through recommendations and best practices. The engineer will also calculate estimated maximum loss values and provide technical support for insurance placement. The job requires extensive industry experience within the energy and/or power generation sector, and an advanced engineering skill set.
Must have:
  • Extensive industry experience in energy or power generation.
  • Advanced engineering skills including process engineering.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Effective communication skills for senior management interaction.
Good to have:
  • Experience working for major operators or manufacturers.
  • Held senior management positions or positions of technical influence.
  • Professional/Chartered/Fellow of a Professional Institute.
  • Project management and commissioning experience.
  • Business fluent in multiple languages.

R_307056 – Energy and Power Risk Engineer

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Energy team at Marsh. This role will be based in London. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

The ideal candidate will have an advanced engineering skill set including experience with process engineering, process safety management, operations management, construction project management, asset integrity management and emergency response 

We are searching for senior engineers with experience in one or more of the following industry sectors to join our risk engineering team: 

  • Upstream (Offshore Operational / Construction Projects) 
  • Downstream (Refining, Petrochemicals, Chemicals and Midstream) 
  • Power generation (Operation and maintenance of CCGT power generation assets, thermal, hydro, wind and nuclear energy) 
  • Finance/production planning (Linear Programme Modelling) 
  • Construction (Project management and commissioning of LNG, CCS, Hydrogen, FPSO/FLNG, Renewables) 

We will count on you to:

  • Work with clients and colleagues to deliver the best risk management and insurance support for clients by accurately representing the risk profile of client assets to the insurance market. 
  • Carry out typically 12-14 for energy surveys, or up to 15-20 for power / renewable surveys per year. 
  • Work with our global team of 100+ risk engineers within our Global Energy and Power Risk Engineering (GERE) team. 
  • Developing thought-leadership publications to support clients in their understanding and delivery of improvement in process safety management topics. 
  • Have a unique perspective of corporate management systems, industry best practices and regulations. 
  • Survey a global portfolio of assets and supporting with the placement of their insurance through development of underwriting reports, risk improvement recommendations and loss estimations. 
  • Improve the process safety performance for our client through recommending continued improvements through risk improvement recommendations and implementation of best practices. 
  • Calculate estimated maximum loss (EML) values associated with major incidents with the use of our specialist software and technical methods. 
  • Work with a specialist team of client executives, brokers and claims personnel to provide technical information and support for insurance placement, tenders and requests for proposals. 
  • Developing thought-leadership publications to support clients in their understanding and delivery of improvement in process safety management topics. 

What you need to have: 

  • Extensive industry experience within the energy and / or power generation sector. 
  • An advanced engineering skill set including experience with process engineering, process safety management, operations management, construction project management, asset integrity management and emergency response
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering subject (or similar) 
  • Effective communications skills to liaise with senior management at various sites, delivering presentations and leading survey meetings 
  • A highly organised work ethic in order to achieve report deadlines and coordinate site visits with a range of clients and underwriters across a variety of countries
